i have read your article.....................and i have been saying people of cyprus do not question anything and come to their own coclusion regarding what they are told and what the reality is.....................i have made many post in here comparing cyprus to other parts of the world.....................the result nothing...................lol i have made many post in this forum regarding to their education in cyprus..................result nothing.................. i have made many posts regarding cyprus history.................results nothing......................................
i have found one result that stands alone greek cypriots and turkish cypriots...........................when i post we only speak turkish and greek but we are not greek and turkish..........................nothing...................aristotle said we are what we repeatedly do.......................and thats the case with cypriot people............... everything in life is a habit what we say how we walk how we think and so forth i try to poin tthis out..................result nothing
its a psychological fact that has been proven today that if you do something whatever it is for 3 weeks on the trot you make a new habit and this goes for breaking habits to becouse by not doing something for three weeks in a row you make a new habit of not doing the old habit.............................unfortunatly i say all this and what is the result my spelling is terrible and i dont use panctuations........................... i have posted many post in this forum mosty they have been redeculed and scorned .................. does this upset me result not at all ...................we are living in a information age and any information we have is useless inless its shared and applied and thats what i tryed to do here .............................result the jury is still out lol

what a shame great threads like this are not debated properly in this forum

I think the article is more relevant to subjects like History, Sociology, Philosophy, Literature, and less to Maths, Science, Language. In the latter, in the early stages of education that you are referring to, there is often a very well defined and concrete method for solving a problem, or making a statement. The laws that these subjects abide by must be understood by students, and it must also be understood that sometimes there is only one solution to a problem. For the former group of subjects, however I do agree that there is never an easy solution and that inquisitive minds may be bred in the manner which you are suggesting. I do agree that free and speculative thought should be encouraged in the classroom, but I also believe that it is not the only thing that should be taught. Discipline and boundaries are also required in certain subjects and in life in general, so a balance must be found. If a student then continues to higher education in Maths or a Science then the skills required for success at such a level are likely to be present in a student who has had a well balanced foundation in education.

Is this the sort of feedback that you were looking for? Any comments about my thoughts?

Mem i take on your points on discipline and boundaries but beleive that they must be worked into freedom and imagination in the classroom and not the other way around.

I say this because thinking like yours is what has led to a system that is so rigid.

Science has rules but the greatest scientist of all time Einstein beleived in imagination more so then knowledge.

Free Cyprus you mention habits and how they must be broken.

Say my article is not about EDucation. THe EDucation word in the article can be defined as Cyprus.

As this was my intention what i am trying to say is that the road to a solution cannot be solved because the methods used are outdated.

People do not question how history is portrayed and is spmeone does Tony from the South making a movie about massacares he is called a traitor and is forced to live on the North.The existence of history being denied

Or the people in TC complaining about the government more many years but not taking enough responsibility or the GC not taking responsibility about why Turkey came to Cyprus and yet complaining that they are here.


Or the prejudice on both sides from people who do not even know the other race,yet the parents who do through there lives know that there is probably more similarities in culture between the north and south then with there homelands.

Each side not admitting its wrongs and instead breeding hate.

Many lazy citizens a lack of dialouge b/w the sides and basic cultural assumptions that are in many instances not thought out through the power of the propaganda.

Or the TC becoming puppets of Turkey not developing their own culture instead losing it to the mainlanders who are so different.

Or the GC becoming money orientated and losing there culture one that i always liked in the GC that i have met in the past.

These are the habits that i am really interested in.

Please don't get me wrong Ghandi, I agree with most of what your article proposes. But the subjects I mentioned do have undeniable facts which cannot be disputed. Whether Einstein was the greatest scientist of all time is questionable but beside the point. He imagined a Universe governed by simple rules and logic - his dream was of a unifying theory of everything. A theoriticians ideas are never assumed true until they are backed up by reams and reams of undeniable mathematics. My thinking is far from rigid, but as a student of Mathematics and the sciences I feel obliged to argue that sometimes there is only one answer. This is what scientists strive for - simplicity.

Your article is much more relevant to the teaching of Cypriot history and politics (and in an indirect way also to philosophy, literature, the arts). And I think that a free thinking and imagination-promoting method is essential to changing the way the next generations of Cypriots will think and how the island's future history will develop. In addition, the teaching resources and first languages taught are also an essential ingredient for this progression. We may all be surprised at how the teaching of both Turkish and Greek from elementary level would alter the perceptions of the next generations. With regards to teaching resources, I'm talking about making sources of history from many perspectives available to students. This will help them make their own conclusions and develop their own ideas.

I agree with all of what you say Mem.

I just think that the issues i have brought up are more wide ranging then just being relevant when teaching history and politics.

In a educational sense it is creating a whole different philosophy , a thinking school not just a thinking class or subject.

As a solution these issues that i mention are roadblocks to a different future.This is not just about education but newspapers,government,citizens and honesty.

I guess i have tried to be a little generalistic as most ideals are.

I do not think i have got you wrong but that you have got what i am saying wrong.

I also have noticed a thread of yours that has many of the same ideas as mine.I have just tried to highlight it through using the education topic.

I probably will have to re write it to get my point across.

Yeah maybe, I guess that was kind of the point of this thread really - to give you an idea not just of how well received your article would be but also of whether it needs adjustment to be communicated more effectively. Are you looking to publish the final article?

i know where your coming from how do you suppose everyone in cyprus believes they are turkish and greek. what education did cypriots have im not talking about today go back fifty years or hundred years..... cypriots have always done what they have been told.... and today they are still doing what they are told by greece and turkey america and briatain..................the problem with cypriots they cannot think independently they do not question things.................but they do know how to shout we are greeks and turks
