No they don't because they're 'the global leader in the promotion of human rights, freedom and democracy' Image

Luckily, someone else does an independent report on their behalf. Some of it makes for interesting reading if you have a spare 10 minutes. Even more interesting when it seems that Amnesty doesn't produce a report highlighting HR in Cyprus at all... yet the leaders of the free world see fit to do so.

Look I am no fan of the USA (as a political entity) but the fact is these reports are written for congress so that they can have a basis on which to make and decide foriegn policy issues. They may be baised and unfair - but there is no 'hypocrasy' about them not doing such a report on themselves in the context of why the reports are produced in the first place.

The meaning of these reports aside erolz, it is hypocrisy to preach to others about human rights, whilst systematically abusing them in some areas of your own domestic and international policy (not to mention abusing present and future human rights globally by not signing up to the Kyoto Protocol). Therefore, to present themselves as 'champions of the free world' is an oxymoron.

If they practiced what they preach I'd have no problem with it. Also, the fact that the tone of this report is somewhat questionable should give cause for concern in that it will be used as a policy input. Given the average American politician's knowledge of the outside world  ... it's worrying.

Well leaving aside the puprpose of these reports then I do not really disagree with you. I agree that the US (and many other countries as well as indivduals) can be very hypocritical re human rights. That if the reports are biased this is vaild cause for concern. I just do not think it is hypocritical that they produce such reports about other countries but not themselves - thats all.

Human rights is probably the best thing that happened on our planet and all these reports will eventually come to something when we all start to treat all humans with the respect they deserve, do we hate the u.s report because it hits us with some home truths or are we just so critical of ourselves that our only way to respound is by sayiong what about your HR record.

So in response lets look at our report and better ourselves and for those that are really upset about it may i suggest you write your own report about the U.S human rights record and see what they think of it.
