its in greek but ill give you a synopsis:

its says that the US govt. does not request the ROC to except the Annan PLAN as is in a new referandum.it says that the state department has notified all interested parties meaning athens, ankara and nicosia and the UN(T/C NOT EVEN MENTIONED)about its new position on the matter.

washignton states that by doing this it has removed one of the main obstocales stopping the ROC of submitting the changes it wants to the plan.the americans are expecting now from T-Pap a "road map"on a way that the g/c will vote yes threw changes to the plan.a western source has stated that "the US govt is not asking T-PAP to except the plan as is.the source claims that they never told him take it or leave it concerning A5,WE are only asking him to give us a road map that will lead to unification of the island".

the same source has verified that Kofi Annan has agreed to the three conditions of t-pap:
1)NO referee-aka filling in the blanks
2)no tight time frames for solution
3)the solution should be agreed upon by both sides before put to referandum

UN ENVOY Sir Prestangant has HAS CONVEYED Kofi Annan agreement to conditions tO THE ROC threw there permanent UN rep.Andreas Maurogiannis with only one condition that the negotions dont last years.

Great American intelligence! This is the only way to corner T-Pap to reveal what he wants. Let's see what he wants. Reunification, full control of Cyprus or partition?

Who said that one boulio, do you remember? The 'ton of bricks' thing? Somehow it remains faceless in my mind. Was it another one of those 'reliable sources' that the press loves so much?
But this 'on his terms' business sounds too good to be true. The mere acceptance of changes by Turkey and the Americans should be enough... Is he going to get greedy, do you think???

it was thomas weston sainty jimmy,US special envoy to cyprus, remeber him and he might have said it if we voted no to the plan or if cyprus vetoed the turkeys getting a eu date or both.

when i mean on his terms i dont mean concerning the plan but in the way negotiotions are conducted,he should request negotiotions to begin turkey already has so should he and say what changes are needed to be made for the g/c concerns to be put at ease at the same time not alienating the t/c from there original vote.

Does T.Pap really thinks that we will keep talking with him forever to unite the island. All these three conditions say to me that what T.Pap saying is the following.
"Hey let's start talking, open ended talks, and keep on talking till we find a solution."

What if we do not find a solution. When are we going to say enough is enough. Is he expecting us to talk for another 30 years?

There has to be a time limit to this discussions, adn there has to be a third party arbitrator. Otherwise even my future planned grandkids would still be talking about unification.

Turkcyp,
imo, this time things are different, for two reasons:
a) there is a specific plan that they're presumably going to be trying to amend. That means that there's only so many things they can talk about (hence they shouldn't be talking for another 30 years  . But then again, you never know  )
b) T-Pap knows that this is going to be the last real chance we get. If this one fails too, it's either going to be completely over, or it's going to be so long before a next round comes along, that things are going to be irreversible.

Or, that's what I hope, at least

This is the article in full as printed in Fileleftheros today (my translation)

"No" to the Annan plan as is, says now the United States.

Message of Americans in Nicosia with recipient Papadopoulos.

The American government does not support the acceptance from the Greek Cypriots of the Annan Plan as is. According to information, the State Department made known its positions to all the interested parties in Ankara, Athens, and Nicosia and the seat of the United Nations.

This development reverses one of the obstacles that did not allow President Tassos Papadopoulos to announce officially to the Secretary General Kofi Annan the changes that he wishes in his plan, which was rejected by the overwhelming majority of Greek Cypriots. Washington notified that it expects from Mr Papadopoulos a "road map" on the way with which they will be convinced - via changes in the Annan Plan - for the Greek Cypriots to say a big "yes" to reunification.

An American representative did not comment on the information, which clarifies the American policy on the Cyprus problem. The representative of the State Department Richard Boucher, has declared repeatedly that Washington supports the initiatives of Mr Kofi Annan and his plan. The Americans support the proposals of the Secretary General that "the Greek-Cypriot side should explain clearly and with clarity what precisely it wishes in order to support the plan" (of Mr Annan). According to information, the objective of the State Department is to satisfy Greek-Cypriot wishes that will help in acceptance of the plan, without reducing the majority in favour of the Annan plan, in the occupied territories. "The American government does not ask from Mr Papadopoulos to accept the plan as is", supported a western diplomatic source. "Nobody said to him: take it or leave it. We did not say, do you accept the Annan plan or something else. We ask him to give us a road map which will lead to the re-unification of Cyprusā€¯.

The same source reiterated that Mr Annan already accepted the three demands of Mr Papadopoulos. The Secretary General said:
Firstly: No to arbitration
Secondly: No to timetables and
Thirdly: The solution should be agreed.

The assistant Secretary General Kieran Prendegrast, officially informed Nicosia, via the permanent representative Andreas Mavrogianni that Mr Annan accepted the terms of the Cypriot leader, with the clarification that the negotiations should not take years.
