I don't like the fact that there is a residency restriction but as I said that will happen either way so I guess there might as well be a mixed zone too.

And what's wrong with having Limassol as the capital? :)

Well if this were to be put under GC referendum do you think the GCs would approve of this? Hehehe. Is Lemeso the most populated city after Lefkosia?

Also by creating two sepearate capitals that kind of alludes to partition. I understand that other countries have multiple capitals for their separate states but thats because they are multiple times larger than CYprus. I think Lefkosia should be the only capital and if there are to be other capitlas they should be prefecture capitals within each state.

I find it interesting how controversial this proposal is ...

GCs are either in favor, or not sure.

TCs are either in favor, or against.

I guess GCs are ambivalent because of the complexity of the proposal - on the one hand, they like the fact that there would be a place without restrictions based on ethnicity, which place would affirm the unity of Cyprus, on the other hand see it as "too bureaucratic" as Mikkie2 said.

TCs are polarised, they are either for it if they consider close co-existence important, or they are against if they do not care too much for co-existence.

Interesting, we can test out more proposals in the same way ...

Here's another option.

HOw about 80% of the island is a mixed federal zone. The remaininng 20% can be split amongst racist partitionist CYpriots such as viewpoint.

i'm not a racist. i've been around many turkish-cypriots, and I've had no problem with it. But for a strange reason, I cannot accept uniting this island. It's something strange for me. I'm only 17, and you'd say i'm immature and all these, but what from I hear around Cyprus, not many people are willing to give up all they've built after 74 to reunite this island. They will be thinking about it seriously when a solution that benefits GCypriots is found.

And learnt from my family not to be a racist and was grown up not to hate the Turkish. Maybe the schools influence a lot, but hey, I've got my opinion. Old-generation grandparents go around "Tourkos kalos mono nekros" or whatever. How is this not influencing younger ones? I'm not saying that I've been influenced but it is very easy in this society we live in to get carried away.

I don't know much of politics but I believe that if solutions were negotiable 10 or 15 or even 20 years ago, there was a chance to reunite the island.
Let's not fool ourselves. Turkey will never let Northern Cyprus alone, and will keep influencing even if we [ever] reunite. Greece the past years has not been influencing much but hey, if I could turn back time, I would be more than happy to be a part of Greece back in 55-59.

My parents do not support the same ideas [ if u know what I mean] but they don't care much about politics. I've created my own interest in politics and gathered an opinion from different facts.

You may say I'm a racist, others will say I'm a fasist. Whichever way, Cyprus will never be the same again, and No solution will solve our problem. We have to understand this. And don't come around telling me "Pessimism won't do any good".

I'm just being a realist here.. ;)

fallen,

you should take a look at Alexandros Lordos' survey (i dont remember the link i think its in his signature on every post) and youd be surprised on the willingness of people to co-habitate.

As far as you being a realist it is true that even after a proper reunification many GCs won't like the fact that they are living with TCs and vice versa. I mean even in Germany a recent survey showed that approximately 1/5 of west Germans wish that the wall could go back up. And these are people of the same ethnicity.
