The british soverign basis will be given to Turkey and these will be the Turkish Soverign basis. The rest of Cyprus will become a Greek Cypriot state were TC's are allowed to live as a minority, e.g. like the asian community within Britain.

Again, unacceptable. Firstly the SBAs are too important to the British and American global surveillance network to be 'given' to the Turkish government. As for your suggestion that TCs become a minority within a GC state... this just goes to prove that you haven't taken account of any of the history of negotiations between the two communities.

Think again, and I do mean THINK.

I apologise, i'm making radical suggestions to provoke a reaction.

However, making Cyprus a part of the UK is not such a bad idea. We lived peacfully enough prior to becoming independent.

Emm ... allowing a Turkish sovereign military base in Cyprus? Sorry Nick, but you'll have to get a GC rejection as well, from me.

Really? Actually this is not my idea. I think erolz suggested this once as a counterargument to one GC forum member who claimed that being a minority should not bother TCs.

I don't think that majority of Cypriots will ever agree Cyprus to be part of the UK again. I mean how would ex-EOKA people feel? How would ex-Taksim people feel? How would ordinary people feel? All these losses and everything for nothing? 50 years of total waste?

Here is another 'radical' approach. We are all equal - one person, one vote. Political parties based on island wide policies, not community policies. Community policies be it TC or GC to be relegated as subservient to a constitution based on the accepted principles of the rule of law. Basically, a non-discriminatory constitution that we must all adhere to.

Who will guarantee that political parties will indeed be based on island-wide policies rather than community policies? What happens if the majority believes in something wrong (like racism in the US in 1950s)? What are the choices for the minority for protection in disagreements?

Metecyp,

Why don't you read my post properly?

In answer to your question:

Community policies be it TC or GC to be relegated as subservient to a constitution based on the accepted principles of the rule of law.

The constitution is upheld by the supreme court, not by politicians.

Who is going to chose the member of the supreme court?
