I don't think so, I think the majority were born in either the 60s or 70s, which would make most of us part of the post-1974 generation - at least in terms of memory). There are a few exceptions such as Michael Coumas and Devil, but I doubt most of the forum members remember a time when Cyprus was 'unified'.

In which case i think that none of you are going to agree on any type of common solution. You will just end up arguing...sorry if thats pessimistic...but its just what i think...im generalising, so dont take it too personally.

THe solution will not be made by people who lived during/remember intercommunal violence.

My genreation born in the late 80s/90s have a sense of the problem, and know where we are from. We still want a solution, to go back to where our ancestors were from, but are to young to be bothered about ethnicity. We are much more tolerant, i feel, than older generations (maybe thats just in the UK, i dont know about cyprus)

Any generations more than a decade after us will be so out of touch with the problem, that they will not seek to solve it.

sorry moose, but even your generation, i think, ar too 'worked up' about the inter ethnic violence. You may not remember it, but you are more influenced by it than my generation.

Dhavlos, I'm not Cypriot so I find it difficult to get worked up about something I did not personally experience. I can appreciate the stance of those who did, who saw loved ones killed before them and who lost homes, land etc., but as I can't feel their pain I can only speak from my slightly detached perspective. I also speak about it in terms of someone who loves Cyprus and loves Cypriots, whether they be GC or TC and is frustrated every time he goes there by the unnatural and unnecessary division of such a small place, especially when there are so many things that make the two communities so similar.

Plus Dhavlos, I know you're only 17, but I'm not quite old enough to be your dad, so I think I'm still from your generation re.

I think that's a moot point. It could go one of two ways, either as you suggest where people feel totally alienated from a land that they do not see as theirs, or they will become even more radicalised and even more determined to 'return' to the north. I think it will be sad either way. All that I know is that if my kid ever comes home from school and gives me a sermon on the barbarity of Turks, he/she will get a longer sermon in return, as will his/her teacher.

I was around when cyprus was one and remember it, even though i was only 6, leading upto 1974 we were in limassol and my parents owned a restaurant, i remember going to the local inddor market and this GC who had a clothes shop used to give me a different cap everytime he saw me and a coke, then he would sit patiently with me and try and improve my greek, wish i knew how to find him but i do not even remember his name.
