Sadik, I couldn't agree with you more ...

Well, as I said already I consider that a Cyprus army, especially one that will be scaled down from what we have now, will be essentially useless from a military point of view. However I admit that your points are valid and that an army maybe can be useful in other aspects.

A small efficient army of volunteers would be of far greater defensive value than a larger army of unwilling (voutiropeda)conscripts.

We no longer fear for our lives under the safety of the Turkish flag.On the Turkshs soldiers that protect our sovereignty. The Turkish Cpriot live a democratic and normal life.) TC Police force will not strong enough to protect TC sovereignt.I believe both community has not gain enought trust to live together, but side by side will do until trust gain again.

Muallim, with all due respect mate, what democracy?what normal life? are you ta;lking about. From what I gather TCs live in an open prison afraid of daily beatings and nightly burgleries from our mainland brothers.
It is time to come clean and see things as they are if we are going to find a solution to the cyprus tragedy. But getting back to the topic,I think we should think outside the square and do away with armed forces altogether. What would be more safe than live in a country where nobody apart from a necessary Police force (very lightly armed and perhaps made up of 50/50 GCs and TCs) carries weapons. Forget about the old ideas of foreign invasions, nobody would dare to invade a EU country as small as Cyprus in the future.Lets disarm all militia and lets guarantee the right of return to everyone who wants to go back to reclaim their former homes, and compensation for those who dont. Lets have all foreign troops leave the island (Turkish,Greek and British) and lets replace fear with trust in our cypriot humanity.Cyupriots should not depend on anybody else for their safety and human rights.Time to be bold and brave chaps.Lets go for it. :)

How do you know who amI and call me mate. When did you come to cyprus last time mate.Yes may be TC lives open prision because the powerful g and gc lobby not to open the doors or lift the ambargos.About night bugleries both side has that.(besle kargayi gozunu oysun)Cyprus is our home as much as greeks and no one can stop us to claim our rights for our homeland. We were born TC and will die `as TC.At the same time no one will ever make us ethnic minority in our home land.We want to live in PEACE with our neighbours.WE WANT INDEPENDENCE, RESPECT, QUALITY and RECOGNITION, AFTER THIS MAYBE WE CAN have %50%50 POLICE FORCE, when we can trust to each other again which I can't see that in this forum still they call us names

Sorry,Muallim,we call everyone "mate" in Australia,it is a term of endearment. But I wont call you mate if you dont like it.I was last in Cyprus in 1999. Things were pretty bad then,I understand they are much worse now.Put your hand on your heart and tell me honestly:Do you really think you can build your lives on property belonging to other people?Do you agree with Denktash that mainland turks are more welcome in the North because they are more turkish than the Cypriots who are leaving the island?what independence do TCs have now when every aspect of their lives are controled by Turkey and The Turkish army in Cyprus?
Granted that the a,mbargoes are hurting the TCS but what is Turkey doing about lifting its own ambargoes in the North? Why
didn't Trabzonspor fly to Ercan first before crossing over to the South?
Why is it that not even one football team from Turkey has ever played in the North in 30 years?
why is it that the recent agreement signed by Turkey does not include the sea and airports in the North? Turkey is looking after its own interests (as they should),the GCs are looking after after their own interests (as they should as well),but who is looking after TCs interests?
You are right that TRUST must be built between the two communities before anything is solved. But how can trust be build if we keep repeating the same old fear that "Greeks will kill us like chickens if Turkish army leaves Cyprus".To create trust someone has to begin trusting the other. What do we really lose by trusting our fellow cypriots except our chains to Turkey?
