A humble proposal

We live in a country whose two main populations were forcefully segregated, seperated from each other and conditioned to all fear, hate and distrust one another. I wait for the day when the Cypriot children of both Byzantines and Ottomans shake hands and stop living in the past, stop listening to outlanders and outsiders who have their own agendas, who want to deprive us of our true heritage and take our land.

The solution of the Cyprus problem won't come through pure politics. It will never come through a church or a mosque, nor will it ever come from Great Britain, Turkey or Greece. It will come about through us, the people of Cyprus. Don't trap yourself behind the obsolete ideas and identities of the past century. Make yourself be as happy to meet your fellow Cypriot as when you meet a Scott, a German or a Spaniard. After all, we've lived together for 10 times the amount of time we've been seperated.

The time is right for a Cypriot revolution, not a revolution of blood but one of friendship and respect. This generation can make all the difference. If you are a Cypriot born in the north then make at least 3 friends in the south, and if you are a Cypriot from the south then make at least 3 friends in the north. Talk to each other, read about each other, and learn from each other. If your first language is Greek learn a bit of Turkish and if your first language is Turkish learn a bit of Greek. forge your own identity. Burn the Blue and the Red in a big fire and have a purple fenix rise in its stead. Let that be our new flag.

Follow the above, and I assure you that one day the problem of Cyprus will just vanish in thin air, and Cyprus will become a prosperous country once again. We don't need guarantor mommies and daddies, we are grown up people not children.

Yeah, Cypriots, and they have two different heritages.

Nowadays noone can distinguish between the Saxons and Normans who once made up the country of England. They are just called English.

The problem is not the people of Cyprus but the expansionist aims of Turkey. Turkey has perpetuated and reinforced the division between the two populations by allowing TCs and illegal immigrants to gorge themselves on Greek loot. Turkey's desire to regain Ottoman style dominance in the Middle East is clear as this comment clearly demonstrates.

Turkey’s relationship with Europe is at best uneasy but at other times has been fraught with conflict and hostility.
Ottoman expansion was stopped at the gates of Vienna in 1683 and in the Mediterranean at the battle of Lepanto in 1571.
Turkey’s insistence on maintaining a foothold in Cyprus is also a legacy of the Ottoman occupation........

Put your "brain" into gear before you post Lordo. Would the 72/3 agreement have stopped the Greek Junta's coup that led to the Turkish invasion? Did the 72/3 agreement scrap the Treaty of Guarantee? I have little doubt that somehow Turkey's dirty tricks department would have engineered moves that achieved its ambition of the partition of Cyprus.

that just proves who had the best interest at heart for all cypriots. the chances are yes it would have stopped it becasue it would have stopped makarios from playing games. but that just goes to show how little we have in common and which ever way you look at it, the two state solution is staring at you.

if you think you can bring together two populations who have lived seperate since 1963 together all in one go you really do not understand the problem.

how about taking your own advice my friend.

The only basic difference between us is our high school books.

If you can seperate two populations who have lived together since 1571, then you can bring together two populations who have lived seperated since 1963.
