Denktas: New talks on Cyprus shouldn't be based on a UN plan

Former Turkish Cypriot President Rauf Denktas said on Monday that UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan’s plan for reunification of the divided island was dead.
"For us, the Annan plan is dead and buried. It’s a big mistake to ask for the resumption of negotiations within the framework of this plan," Denktas was quoted as saying during a press conference at Suleyman Demirel University in Isparta.

Denktas also said the Turkish Parliament shouldn’t approve an additional protocol extending Turkey’s Customs Union deal to the newest members of the European Union, including Greek Cyprus, and added that the protocol shouldn’t even be discussed by Parliament.

This proves that some people unfortunately don't know,and never learn,to engage their brain before opening their mouth.Or when to quit flogging a dead horse...

hi.... i am new to this forum but i have been regulary looking at all of your opinions.
Firstly, i am a Greek Cypriot born in th UK but i originate from Tymbou (Mothers village) and Yialousa (Fathers village) both villages are occupied.
We must all remember that after the ottomans left cyprus,Greeks and Turks lived in peace on the island for some eighty years and there was no inter communal fighting, they also referred to each other as Christianos and Mousoulmanos and not greek and turk.Their ethnicity was not their respective motherlands but it was their religion.
Hatred between the two communities was instigated by the English and the Americans and a few nationalists on both sides. The majority of all Cyprots before 1950 were a peace loving people who just wanted their independence, but the then British policy of divide and rule took control on the island.
A real solution to the islands problem can only be found by its legal inhabitants (excluding settlers from turkey) and not Turkey ,or Greece and definetly not USA or UK ,
The USA and UK are only concerned about their own interest and not anyone elses.
The Annan (USA) plan sought to divide the island and not unite.
We must find a common ground to unite the island because history says that without external influences, greek cypriots and turkish cypriot can co exist in harmony on one of the most beautiful island in the world.
