Erol,

You misunderstood me. I am all for a T&RC but I am just worried about vendettas and vigilante type actions. The trouble is Cyprus is a small place and it would not be easy to protect people. I personally think that crimes that involved killings should be prosecuted fully by the criminal courts. If anything this will stand as an example and to make people think twice about embarking on adventures wich led up to the division of Cyprus inthe first place.

1) Maximum truth - without prosecutions
2) Possibly less that maximum truth - with prosecutions

Personally I would chose 1 over 2.

I agree with Erol.

It is high time we stop hiding behind our fingers, on both sides of the Green Line.
The "Cyprus Envelope" should be opened without further delay.

As a first step of the solution process, Cyprus should be completely de-militarized, including all local and foreign paramilitary agencies, foreign spy agencies, British bases, etc.

The prime 'example' of a T&RC is the one held in SA after the fall of aparthied. My understanding is that they were of the 'option 2' type. That is those people who gave testimony (thus help to establish truth) could not have this testiomy used in evidence against them. The whole point was not about establishing who was guilty so they could be punished. The whole point was to try and find out and document as much 'truth' about the period so that it could be laid to reat and reconcilliation could begin. This is my personal prefereance for a Cypriot T&RC. Establish truth - not seek to establish guilt and prosecute. I believe option 2 is a viable option as I understand it was viable in SA and do not see why it is not viable here then (unless I have misunderstood the SA T&RC totaly)

In an ideal world everyone should get what they deserve for their past actions. But I will agree with Erolz (for once) that in the case of Cyprus "option 2" may be a "wiser" choice.

O.

The commission in my opinion would have to have teeth to punish individuals to have any cathartic value for Cyprus. Prison sentences must be served by individual scum bags.

The key word is individuals not ethnic groups including every last civilian, babies, grandmothers and the infirm.

I voted yes as this is what i believe is needed to show our people that the crimes committed are not forgotten or they can get away with it.
