United Federal Republic of Cyprus!

President Christofias and Talat said:
Cyprus's new name has been agreed by both parties as the United Federal Republic of Cyprus
.

Here we go again..........

Country Name: United Federal Republic of Cyprus

States: Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot Federated State.

Apparently, and according to foreign mediators, the above is what's being viewed as the possible compromise of a Cyprus formula!

What are your views?

The following sentence can be found in reports on Friday's meeting:

Christofias said: "I think that we have a common position (that) it will be a united federal Republic of Cyprus."

What is significant is that this comment was made orally, and when it is written down, its meaning changes depending on what is capitalised.

If you capitalise the last four words as "United Federal Republic of Cyprus", this then appears to be the suggested name for the new state.

If you only capitalise the last two words and add a comma as "united, federal Republic of Cyprus", then "united" and "federal" are merely used as adjectives describing the nature of the republic that is envisaged.

Is there any other evidence that this is the name being proposed for the entity that emerges from the peace negotiations?

Hi Oracle,

I'll refrain from answering the "Turk" part. I'm sure if I were a Turk, what was mentioned above would obviously be their Nightmare scenario as we all know that they what the Status Quo or the Annan Plan scenario and not be reduced to a federated stated under a dominant Greek Cypriot lead Republic of Cyprus - Please Oracle, it really offends me to read such comments from a user I think highly of.

I was only stating what was stated after the meeting between President Christofias and Talat, and their mediators.

The Turkish Cypriot nationalist Turgay Avci was the one who stated the Republic of Cyprus and Turkish Cypriot Federated part - along with some of our Greek Cypriot ministers. Why else would our leaders state a United FEDERAL Republic of Cyprus; Please break it down in English logic.

In simple terms, a Federated Turkish Cypriot State is to attach itself on the Republic of Cyprus, thus creating a UNITED Federal REPULIC of CYPRUS. It's very simple logic, and very tactful by the two leaders. Although, we all do naturally know that this will not materialise!

Cheers,
Andros.

Also........

Did I not say that President Christofias would fail in any attempt in agreeing, let alone establishing, a PURE fedal solution as the REPUBLIC of CYPRUS.

I don't want to sound like Papadopoulos, but I would prefer being known as the one who successfully brokered an agreed Partition of Cyprus than the ONE who dissolved the successful REPUBLIC of CYPRUS for a doomed UNITED Federal Republic of Cyprus.

What a load of rubbish. Also, I am sure the verbal explanations and committments of politicians are taken as seriously as their written confirmations!

President Christofias is on his way to an Annan 6 Plan - I now have no doubts.

In that case, just give me your real feelings on this:

States: Republic of Cyprus and the Turkish Cypriot Federated State.

In other words why does one "state" have an ethnicity?

Hi Oracle,

I agree with your feelings on this issue, believe me. Do you think I am happy with a Cyprus Settlement that falls short of the present Republic of Cyprus?

In my opinion, why bother with a United Federal Republic of Cyprus rubbish if your overall intention is truly to UNITE. Of Course, this Cyprus deal runs deeper than what we know. Why have the words: United and Federal in one Republic if the Republic is supposed to be unified? What is the point!

All I am saying is that some elements of this new process is becoming apparent, and I hope that our people are not presented with another "Double" ended agreement like the former Annan Plan. Especially if it's going to be called the United Federal Republic of Cyprus.

It all looks very suspicious to me!

If President Christofias is going to go down that road, I would prefer a NON-FEDERAL UNITED whatever, and to come clean and support two states - at least we'll not be suckered into no Power-Sharing, Turkish veto scenario in the future. At least the rule of law will be based on a true Democratic environment, and no one based on Derogation's, restrictions and No-Go areas.

The United Federal Republic of Cyprus announcement was exactly what I have been talking about since last year - our leaders are so transparent that they should just hand over the rest of the agreement to us. At least we'll support the true needs of our people in an honest way, even if it should lead to an agreed split. It's better than signing a very bad deal.

In order for another state to attach itself to an existing one (ROC) then the ROC will have to recognise that other state just before it is attached, on an agreement.

This means that if ever there was a referendum in the north for independence, the exiting state will call upon the signed foundation agreement as evidence of its legality.

This is a red line for the ROC so you've understood wrong.

Andros, how come all your posts are angled to give TCs their illegal state. Where did they grow you, because not only do you go against the grain with a biased plan, your a sellout as well. Who the hell are you to entice anything to the ones that have a history of violence, a state with MY property on it? Stop trying to be Peter Pan.
