TurkCyp,

Do you accept the membership of Cyprus in the European Union after a solution of the Cyprus problem is found?

Majority of the senate = majority of each community. What you are proposing turkcyp is similar to the system of a confederation.

It can be more GCs and less TCs but at the end majority of TC sitting senators which are voted by TCs and reflect the true views if TCs should give consent to a bill to make it a law.

Yes let's have also 1 Armenian, 1 Maronite and 1 Latin in the Senate too. Then if one of these people decides not to pass a law it will get rejected.

The proposal I made guarantees that both communities have to work together to serve the interests of the nation whereas yours has the potential to create the same problems that were created in 1963.

I only look at things from cost and benefit analysis view. I try not to hold grudges or any sentimental feelings. EU membership when analyzed in as cost benefit analysis does not help small islands like Cyprus or Malta. The only reason these choose to join is not economical but are usually sentimental and in RoC case strategical. So I would not want Cyprus to be a EU member. I feel Cyprus can gain much more economically by staying outside of EU.

But again unfortunately my views about this are of a rarity in TC society. I am pretty sure that TC society would back EU membership to my dismay. But I would accept everything majority approves. Everybody thinks that being a EU member is a walk in the rose garden. It has a lot of economic risks it comes with a lot of unnecessary regulation, and plus sides are very limited in my opinon.

Therefore when discussing a future solution we should consider E.U. membership as for granted and an irreversible reality. Both because Cyprus is already a member and that the Annan plan was drafted based on the E.U. membership assumption and in addition, as you say, the vast majority of TCs wants and approves it.

Here is my next question. Are you aware that the E.U. has drafted a constitution that is currently going through an approval phase from the various countries? Are you also aware that this constitution, once approved, will super-seat any national constitution and no provision of a national constitution shall be in conflict or in violation of the E.U. constitution?

What are you getting at Kifeas? So you're saying that no matter what kind of a plan we agree on, it'll be null and void after we accept the EU constitution? We're wasting our time then with all this Annan plan business?

Sovereignty is still vested in the countries and therefore it is not still a state. Any state can simply walk out of EU at the time of their choosing. But again this is not a subject to be discussed in this topic. If you want to learn more about my opinion about EU please read the EU topic in the Forum. I do not for one believe that EU will exist in its current form for another 5 years anyway.

So what do you think will happen to E.U in next 5 years, appreciate your opinion.
