The reasons why there are embargos in northern Cyprus is the proclamation of idependence and the creation of the 'trnc'. The UN has condemned this and it is the UN that calls upon all nations to not recognise or to support the 'trnc'. If the TC's wish to show good will and a genuine desire for unification then the 'trnc' should be dissolved. That way, the road is open for embargoes to be lifted.

Unfortunately the spirit of compromise and reason does not exist in the Turkish psyche.

You are missing my point. I mean the illegal status is no longer an excuse to block trade and aid for TC's. TC's showed they were entirely ready to dissolve the TRNC (and therefore their illegal status) in favour of unifying. South rejected this and therefore its entirely their fault the current status of the island exists, TC's shouldnt have to compromise one bit to rightfully get what they were ready to sacrifice for.

With regards to property and soldiers, you would have got more property and less soldiers if you stuck to the plan.

Mikkie 2 you must be joking. TC's were absoloutely ready to dissolve the TRNC last year, how much more gesture do you need?

Is there a difference?

Apple: dissolving something already in a dissolved state, which does not legally exist and is also occupied by a foreign army that declares to remain there for ever.

Orange: Dissolving a recognized independent democratic state, economically healthy and member of the UN and the EU.

Mr Khan

Your logical approach to this debate I'm afraid is not powerful enough to overcome the emotional baggage that our friends the GC's have accumulated over the last several decades.

I'm not suggesting that Ms -mikkie2- or Mr Main-Source or some of the others are decades old, simply that their education leaves a lot to be desired.

Mr Main Source "Besides, your recognition is our ethnic cleansing. GC were living in the north of Cyprus for 3,500 years before the invasion."

Ms -mikkie2- "Unfortunately the spirit of compromise and reason does not exist in the Turkish psyche."

More simply put Turks are bad, Geeks are good

Now I trust you see what you are up against.

By the way, welcome to the Forum

1) Varaosha Returned to it's legal inhabitiants
2) Strict enforcement of no more exploitation of GC land/property.

Nick,

If the Tcs get 1 and 2 the Cyprus Problem is finished for them. If we get 1 and 2, only 25% of the problem is finished for us.Sorry you are not a good negotiator.I beleive the only sensible and balanced proposal was the one already made by Papadopoulos which unfortunately was turned down by Talat.

Mr Tony,

That's because for the port to have direct trade it will not be "trnc"port" anymore. It will be under the EU.So if it will be under the EU the GCs must be in (together with the TCs) to make sure it is running under EU conditions.Imported products will not have "trnc" as destination label but Famagusta-Cyprus. Exported products will not be labeled "made in trnc" but "made in Cyprus". Etc Etc. I hope this clarifies your queery.

Sorry to say but this thread has so many things wrong and so many misconceptions that it is almost funny. Even the counter proposals of some guys are good only for laughs.

Mr MicAtCyp

Good afternoon to you. I trust that you and your family are well.

Thank you once again for clarifying my mis-understanding.

According to people on here, TC's should lose their sovereignty and subject themselves to GC rule without question to gain credibility. This sounds remarkably similar to 30 years ago, look where that got us.

To be honest since i have joined this forum i have realised the anti-Turkish sentiment that runs through many GC's. If GC's can start treating their TC's compatriots with some dignity and respect, and not try and subjugate them into giving concessions, then perhaps some progress will be made. As it is i am very pessimistic on the two communities ever reconciling.
