If a solution does come about, it seems there will always be parties that represent only one community.

What needs to happen is that parties need to represent EVERY cypriot, be s/he TC, GC, Armenian, Latin, Christian, Muslim etc.

If this happens, then i beleive a solution would be much more likely as the parties involved would be striving towards the same ends, for all cypriots, rather than just the one community.

Also, in the long term, pan-cypriot parties would make cyprus much more stable, politically, and i feel this would filter through to society.

If these types of parties develop soon, i think a solution would come sooner too.

It is easy for communist/socialist parties to represent everyone, due to their ideological belief against 'nationalism'(although this can be questioned), but one day, i would like to see a party on the right of politics which represents all cypriots, not just seperate communities.

What do people feel about parties which represent every cypriot, not just each community, is it the way forward?

Anyone have any information on how much this party polled at the last TRNC Parliamentary elections?

They boycotted the elections in TRNC because they believe that it's not democratic (due to settlers) but their percentage is not more than 5%.

Thanks mete, they obviously act according to their principles, but are self-defeating in doing so. What they should do is stand in both TRNC and RoC elections, regarding them as proto-constituent chambers. That would be a true statement of bicommunality. In the same way that Sinn Fein stand in Northern Irish elections and Republic of Ireland elections.

but if parties dont represent the two communities, then why dont parties from either side join together, like a coalition ... it could be a lot simpler, but again i suppose they are too 'proud' to do such a thing

I don't know how feasible it is to have such party now. However after the solution all parties should be like this. I don't see why in a united Cyprus (which should be the result of the solution) the parties should be split based on race.

Piratis, how does it work with the 24 seats reserved for TC members in the Vouli? If a single TC party decided to stand in the RoC elections and TC voters (as citizens holding RoC passports as many now do) crossed the line to vote for them, would this party be allocated the TC seats? Also, would there be a threshold in terms of numbers of votes, or if they received 100 votes, would they receive all of the seats anyway? I assume that there must be measures in place to prevent this?

The seats are reserved until a solution is found. Before that, and without any other arrangments, those seats can not be occupied.
