Made in China

With China rapid growth in every direction it is now undeniably on its way to becoming the super power of this century.

China has a seat at most important tables in the world at the moment.

In 25 years its influence in international affairs will surely be even greater.

The reunification of Cyprus is most likely to occur during China's reign.

We all need an understanding of China's philosophy on world affairs. Parrallels to the Cyprus issue are routinely made with respect to the problems China is facing with its sovereignty and the Taiwan issue.

It is going to be interesting to see how a Super power like china will influence issue like the Cyprus problem. The philosophy is the complete opposite of the Angloamerican philosophy of divide and rule.

The people of Tibet probably understand the Chinese philosophy better than most. Leaving aside Taiwan China is going to have its hands full with North Korea, a resurgent Japanese military establishment, its own religious fundamentalists, environmental pollution and an ever growing consumer society.

China's commercial/political strategy is to forge links with nations that contain vast numbers of consumers/potential consumers the US at present being its chief export area followed by the EU. India contains the greatest potential, other states including Turkey with its sizeable population are also trade targets. Justice for Cyprus, unfortunately there's just not enough 'bums on seats'. If Ribbentrop and Molotov could sign a non-aggression pact and Churchill and DeValera sign an article of understanding then I would not put to much faith in the Chinese cavalry coming over the brow of the hill to rescue Cyprus unless of course its to rescue the other side who ever they may be.

Greek Cypriots once put all their hopes in the strength of the Greek Lobby in USA. They got disappointed and then turned their faces towards EU. Now they are beginning to get cold shoulder and China must be the last straw. Nobody is going to solve your problems for you as long as you create problems for yourselves. There is only one way for a lasting solution. Either Greek Cypriots agree to an arrangement so that Turkish Cypriots will not be discriminated against or make the present partition permanent. Hiding behind high ideals like Human Rights for all in full means no proper human rights for Turkish Cypriots beause as a minority they can be discriminated against. They lived through all this from 1963 to 1974 and now they will not agree to anything that does not guarantee the very basic human rights of all, : a) Right to live in peace without fear for his life and b) Without fear of discrimination. One man one vote sounds great and very democratic but in reality it can be very undemocratic for the minorites unless safeguards are in place. The same goes for all Human Rights. So the Greek Cypriot side must come down from their high horses and try to be more fair and more realistic if they want to solve the Cyprus problem. Otherwise they will be dreaming of geting help from China, then India and so on.

we are not giving up. and if the chinese dont help us out, will wait for the next superpower. the problem is that after they become superpowers our deeply rooted anti-imperialist, anti-capitalist feelings will not allow us to trust them. as a concequence, we ll either wait for some help from the outter space or till we turn ourselves into a superpower. i ll leave it on you , elko, to predict which of the two will happen first

I'm actually for waiting for the aliens to make contact with the human kind to solve the Cyprus problem. I trust Alfa Centaurians. I think they may be able to prepare a better plan than Kofi Annan. If it doesn't work we will ask the Galactic Union to solve it for us.

Slightly surprised to read into the political mindset of those that feel because China is on the rise, then we must wait for this country to make it to world hegemon where it will be crowned leader of international relations and ultimate judge over Cyprus' fate.

very odd indeed.

How about -

Life isnt a Kevin Costner film. The day china steps into Cypriot affairs, is the day Tina Turner remarries Ike and decides to go on a Natural Born Killer style murder spree across the Andalucian plains wearing nothing but a bear skin rug and driving a tractor driven by a thermo-nuclear rod.

Ive heard more plausible political scenarios come out of an underground North Korean drinking den for the shell shocked and war weary.

Also, the fella who said something about the EU turning its back on Cyprus. Seeing as the closest you get to educational resources explaining the European Union and its powers is the Second hand agricultural book shop in Karpasia, I'd be quiet. I doubt if you know very much about anything with wildly biased views like yours.

and besides, your living on someone elses land. If your an imposter in life, no wonder you a fake ass on a forum site.

chiao guys.

Wouw. Where exactly is this book shop. Does it also have a coffee shop? I'd like to check it out. I need to find some good old fashioned reference on how to prune my Kiwi trees... :)

Kiwi trees!

sheeet, now there's a hard to come by fruit.

Sadly no coffee at his bookshop. Such advanced forms of bevarage have yet to make it to those parts. You strictly talking cattle urine and rat-au-van (that's rat that's been run over by a van) if you get my richard curtis inspired reference.

but still, these books sure do get the blood flowin'

still, interested in the kiwis still. I'll swop you a jar of nescafe gold blend for a box of your finest. decent trade.

random Q: what's famagusta like these days? I've had a look at it using a pair of binoculars and a ferocious squint. I made out a shepherd, his accompanying flock, and a whole bunch of buildings minus their windows.

Are they transforming the town into a giant Paintball War Games Centre?

sounds like fun.
