cadaunovera , if we are going to live in peace with our compatriots , and yes after 400 plus years in Cyprus , they are Cypriots , we are going to have to get along with them. If we carry on as an extension of Greece we will not.
I'm a Cypriot and a Greek in that order .My allegiance is to my birth country first , my adopted country second , and subsequently to Europe America and the West of which Greece is part of.
I understand the concept of Hellenism but I also respect the rights of the T/Cs not to participate in a national anthem belonging to a foreign country.
Cyprus will prosper and will find the ultimate solution only if our focus is directed towards the Cypriot identity , and the Greek National anthem along with the Greek flag should not be a stumbling block to our progress.

I do not want to change our national anthem either! It belongs to Cyprus as well as Greece!

Miltiades, just because someone has a different opinion to yours, if does not make them any less Cypriot, so just give it a rest! And just live out the rest of your life in your beloved 'adopted country.' I am sick of people like you forcing it down everybody's throats, CYPRIOT, CYPRIOT, CYPRIOT! WE DO NOT HAVE TO IGNORE AND FORGET OUR DIVERSITY AS DIFFERENT COMMUNITIES TO RE-UNITE CYPRUS! There are many different communities that live in one country all over the world. The main thing we need is trust for a solution to work. Not to compress our cultures and identities into a brand new 'Cypriot' version. This is the wrong way to pursue trust in my opinion. If anything, it just makes the situation look suspicious.

Right. It belongs to Cyprus and Greece. This anthem is about Greeks and freedom, not about Greece Niyaz. That is the anthem Greek Cypriots have in their hearts. That is the anthem that makes me feel like crying when i hear it,the anthem that is in my heart and i respect.I wont feel the same way about a new anthem cz it will simply mean nothing to me.Im not the only one who feels this way.At schools after the events for our national days we all sing our anthem.Whats going to happen at schools after these events!?Sing an anthem about Turks?Haaaaaaa! Are we going to celebrate their national days as well?Oh can you imagine? How nice would that be!We would all be fair and live in peace!Or should we just stop doing events about our national days cz we might "offend" turks?

Anws,Simon is right. You are trying to create a new version of Cyprus and is so wrong.

Never stop doing events about your National Holidays!!!

And the anthem shouldn't be about Turks. That would be a bit one sided, don't you think?

BUT... It's GREECE's national anthem. Canada had their own anthem separate from England!

You said youreslf its about Greeks and freedom. Well, don't forget that 18% of your country isn't Greek.

Anywho, i mentioned NOTHING about changing the flag. The flag MUST stay the same. No matter what agreement and plan follows through on, we CANNOT legitimise the invasion. Making a new flag would indicate that the south was also not the true government of Cyprus and make the invasion look legit. Also, the flag was made by a Turk to begin with.

I've seen the proposed flag made by the Annan plan. It's ugly

And as for any other "proposals"... I'd rather die than see the Crescent and Star used on the flag of Cyprus.

Simon so you support partition then do you , because the Turkish Cypriots will not want to pay respect to the Greek national anthem , they naturally would want the Turkish anthem , so why dont you tell us the truth .You want partition.
YOU WROTE :

Well it makes you for a start much less of a Cypriot just look above how sick it makes you. ^^^^

It saddens me that so many of our young people in Cyprus have resigned themselves to a permanent partition of our island, they are the no hopers the losers that future generations will hold responsible.

Simon, although I agree with you that being Cypriot citizens of a re-united Cyprus should not and does not mean that we should suppress, change or lose our cultural identity, neither the TCs should be obliged to do so, but what you say about national anthem -and assuming that with that you mean the national anthem of a re-united Cyprus as one single "nation-state;" is pure crab! You have to be very stupid to claim that we should retain the Greek national anthem for a multicultural and multi-sub-ethnic re-united Cyprus. You are free to sing the Greek national anthem in your private life, but you cannot claim that this should be the official one for all Cypriots!

What a load of B#llocks,

forget the dialects, its pissing in the wind (force 10 now), here is my plan :

1. Turkish and British troops off the island. (any foreign troops for that matter)
2. All Main land turkish settlers sent back to turkey
3. All land both GC and TC returned to its rightfull owners. Anyone occupying these properties to be evicted. (they shouldn't have been there in the first place, i can't decide if they should be prosecuted for receiving!)
4. Draft in the UN to keep the peace (since our TC neighbours fear mass murders, bollocks again)
5. Now get round the table and talk about a sensible future for both communities.

This is the only way forward.

Anything else would just be a giveaway, we might just as well bend over, take it up the shitter and then say thank you boys. Hell no.

I'm not interested in smart comments, i don't care about insults or abuse, i'm interested in a united cyprus where i haven't been shafted for the pleasure on walking once again on my ancestors land.

Cyprus cannot be united with the threat of the military standingby, it doesn't work, come forth lebanon, thats what we will have in the end.

My 2 cents worth

It's not that bad... idealistic and still doesn't solve the government problem... but not that bad.

Tell me, what do you have against it?
