REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATIONS

The 27th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic and Northern Cyprus will be celebrated with various ceremonies throughout the country until the 26th of November. The official ceremonies will begin with a speech to be delivered by the President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Derviş Eroğlu on Bayrak Radio Television Corporations television and radio channels simultaneously on the 14th of November.

Political party representatives, academicians, war veterans and journalists from Turkey and other countries will be coming to the Republic to join in the celebrations and share the joys of the people.

The celebrations which started today will last for 15 days in total and a variety of events will take place.

A football match was held between the London Turkish Masters Football Team and the TRNC Masters Football team at the Atatürk stadium in Lefkoşa this afternoon.

Meanwhile, two Turkish War Ships will be docked off the coast of Girne as part of the celebrations marking the Republic Day and will be opened for visits on the 14th and 15th of November.

Meanwhile, yesterday, President Eroglu received a group of students from an educational centre where he was greeted by children with the flags of motherland Turkey and the TRNC in their hands, chanting the slogan `TRNC forever`.

Welcoming the children, President Eroglu complained of the Greek Cypriot Side’s intransigent stance at peace talks and said reaching a solution to the Cyprus problem seemed difficult under current conditions.

Celebrations marking the 27th anniversary of the establishment of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus have been moved to an earlier time in Ankara. Reason for the change is that the anniversary coincides with the celebration of the holy Kurban Bayram this year.
