The Met office today issued the following warnings

As a result of an incoming EU Commission report on Turkey's progress in implementing the migrant deal due to arrive on Wednesday, the Met office is forecasting high levels of hypocrisy in regards to the credibility, legitimacy and validity of such Eu reports in general from some quarters.

Thanks for pre-warning us but we've been snowed under with your hypocrisy for a few weeks now. :P

I guess you've got more to rain down on us ...

Sounds like you're running scared because the report might not look favorable to Turkey. That is what happens when you have a guilty conscious.

Let's see. I an almost predict what they are going to say about Turkey.

The authorities in Turkey are doing almost zero to combat and deter opportunistic profiteers from aiding the crossing of desperate refugees in unsafe and cramped boats and in treacherous waters.

Indonesia does the same thing so don't hope that helps you out a bit.

As for Greece, they have done very well. The refugees have been very happy because for once they were treated like human beings for the first time since they fleed their war torn country.

Almost certainly that will be the case. What I will not be doing, I would predict, is writing the EU Commission report off out of hand as being from a 'discussion site'. Nor will I seek to use any earlier commission reports that were more favourable / less critical of Turkey and try and make out that those are the only relevant report. Nor will I just blanketly assert the exact opposite of what this report does end up saying about Turkey and present that as the only real and actual truth on the matter ;) Oh and I almost certainly will not end up calling anyone 'slime'.

I also almost certainly will not entirely dismiss out of hand the report itself and any and all media reports about it that are in any way critical of Turkey as being proof of the 'christian' EU's and media's 'anti Turkish' bais, nor branding as 'Turk hating liars' any reporter (or indeed the EU commission itself) who makes claims about the report and what it represents and means that I do not like or agree with, unless their report includes only verbatim quotable extracts from the report and nothing else.

It's a ridiculous comparison to make anyway because Turkey is NOT in the EU and the EU Commission will be looking only at how some specific budget given to Turkey to help the refugees has been used. It cannot treat Turkey the way it can treat its own

It's a completely different case to the conditions applied to existing EU members who are tied into the untested waters of having experimental Schengen conditions which are applied in the same way from e.g. Scandinavia down to Greece/Italy.

These will be entirely different reports! So don't get ahead of yourself in thinking Turkey is somehow going to be treated like a proxy EU/Schengen state!

The whole of the EU is an experiment, in particular of the one size fits all, or rather does not quite fit anybody very well, variety, but subject to that provisio, Schengen has been around in one form or another since 1985, and been a part of EU law following the Amsterdam treaty in 1997, so it can hardly be said to untested waters, nor would I say at this stage can it be described as experimental conditions when it has been rolled out for use inthe real world for so long.

I personally hope that the investigations are performed and the report is prepared with the at least same rigour as that for Greece, and that if failings are found that they are properly highlighted and that Turkey too is told to take steps to remedy any such issues - or suitable steps will be taken - or are you expecting whitewash and have already decided you will be complaining it is not critical enough, simply because it is Turkey?

Seriously? When did they test Schengen by having nearly One Million people storm one bit of its external border?

Meaningless. Turkey is NOT in the EU.

he who pays the piper can take a hike.

Sovereign country my friend and you can use poor countries like this by expecting them to fend off the refugees all because you blokes are just racist thugs.

You want Greece to be your border guards, then pay up and shut up!

So, Turkey was bribed with billions to stop dumping migrants into the EU and Greece as an EU member (experiencing one in ten of its population swelling) was given how much? (And I don't mean money it has to repay at exorbitant interest rates!).

Where's the hypocrisy now?
