...strangely, it reminds me of the Portuguese soap operas i saw on TV with Spanish translations, in Cuba.

Perhaps I descend from Spainobambaki instead. Did the Spanish invade Cyprus perhaps and we did not realise it.

...san ta boulia. That's what Greeks say about the sound of Cypriots speaking; i have to agree.

Like the Simpsons in Spanish (and in Joual here in Quebec), i watch them out of choice; it's funny and on another level. We are all bambakia when it comes to our Modern Age and beyond aren't "we", in this Age of Information.

...given how you are so obsessed with your origins ethnically speaking, and given that Cyprus is the cross-road to three continents, you should look into it.

Cyprus, is not just "Greeks" and "Turks".

I am not obsessed RW. The point is very simple. There was a time we all spoke like that. Then in came the Greeks and greekified the Outh and the Turks Turkified the north and now we cannot understand each others' language. Not that most GCs ever understod TC but certainly majority of TCs were fluent in the old GC.

No obsession involbed just observing the destuction of Cyprus culture by others.

indeed.

Still, i am hopeful because younger people appreciate diversity; they are Citizens of the World, willing to share with their own distinctions, and they have their own 'language' if you will, which is always evolving.

...such as it is, we should as Cypriots appreciate the ethnos quite complex in Cyprus, and geographic as well, not until too long ago were Cypriots in affect isolated from each other without roads as self sustaining villagers.

(quite a paradox given how they are divided in this day and Age)

...do not despair Lordo, the Imperialism of Language; look what English brings us, and yet we must never forget that the threat of extinction looms without our attention.

Cheers!

...great find by the way, lot's of entertainment with that link.

RW I am not talking about development of language, I am talking about deliberate destruction of Cypriot Language and Culture to be replaced by Greek and Turkish cultures. This was a political thuggery of the worst kind.
