You are an idiot if you think young Cypriots are going to be talking like bambos from the horko!

Cypriots in the south are mostly tertiary educated now, and with streaming, actually watch shows that speak proper, so the old horkatika is just dieing a natural death.

As the world becomes a global village, other countries infiltrate your language and mannerism.

For instance, there is no doubt in my mind that the US has managed to infiltrate Australia as many Americanisms have now entered into our daily speak and vocabulary - to the dismay of all the oldies but what do you expect when every household is streaming mostly American content through Netflix and other platforms?

That's just the way it is.

Talking of education and language. Here is a man who was from the east of Turkey, went to University became a script writer, sucsesfull producer and finally ended as an MP. He gave it all up and decided to serve his country. He has the guts to tell Turkish Parliament what they have been doing in Cyprus.

This is for the idio who thinks that the way people talks is to do with their education at the university level. Not that he will understand any of it.

I know how Cypriots use to talk but to think that would be maintained in this day and age where all our young ones are being educated at universities in Greece, UK, US, and Canada is pure delusion.

Cypriots are being osmosed into a broader international family. All of them speak English, and some even speak French and German.

The 50s are well and truly OVER. It's called progress.

The same is happening in all countries. Same here in Australia where in the pre COVID world there were a million Aussies living and working in London and LA. As a result, we too are being European and US influenced - everything from our culture and the way we speak. No more Crocodile Dundee types or widespread use of Aussie vocabulary or slang.

So there were no attempts made by Greece and Turkey to actually destroy the Cypriot culture including the language to make them more Greek and Turkish then?

How would I know. I only lived when it was happening. Never mind hey.

Yoooooou stupid boy.

Turkey yes. they are destroying the Cypriot culture and inheritance as they looted culturally significant sites and churches.

Greece, has never destroyed the Cypriot culture and Greece has no input into the RoC other than be a friendly country to the RoC, ally and fellow EU member.

Greek Cypriots speak the same exact language as Greeks. The Cypriot dialect and slang however, were always going to struggle in this day and age because young Cypriots were always going to pivot to modern Greek much like countries like Australia are being Americanized or more British influenced.

Neither Britain or America have destroyed our culture or language. in fact, as an Australian, if you can't score a root in America everyday of the week, then you got issues because the Yanks absolutely adore Australians and the way Aussies talk and their accents and culture. But because of the immense American influence into our culture, our language and culture slowly changes and evolves (some people say devolve) but that is just normal.

Every word above is Greek and has roots in Ancient Greek .. whether it sounds like modern or”xorkatika”, it’s Greek.
