GG, your point is entirely without merit. If Gore had run a half-way intelligent campaign instead of running around slobbering on his hag of a wife on stage to show that he's sensitive to female voters, he'd have gone further.
Gore cost himself that election by being a bigger disaster than Bush. If he was a strong candidate, he'd have won over Nader's supporters. Nobody is obligated to vote for any particular party and support of a third party simply cannot be construed as support of one of the larger two by the loser of the larger two parties. Some people reject the choice of two evils to vote for. Good for them. |
Hi Dinos,
What you say about Gore is fairly true, and had he not distanced himself from Clinton too much, because of "Lewinsky Gate", he could have done much better, despite all the shenanigans with Florida's election board. Also lets not forget, that Gore even lost his home state of Tennessee, which would have gave him the Presidency, so Gore did screw things for himself, no doubt.
Having said all that, this is the part I found it to be troubling for me with Nader and those who supported him in 2000. Gore run on being environmentalist and Bush run on "Fuck the environment", and yet those who supported Nader, as well as being a protest voters, they were also by and large environmentalist. So it defied logic, as to why one would vote for Nader who had no chance of winning to have made a difference on the environment, when Gore would have been a better choice, and on the flip side of the coin, they also knew that Bush could care less about the environment, which their Nader support was in fact a factor in electing Bush, specially in Florida.
Happy 4th of July.!! |

The only thing anybody needs to "get" is that people are settling for voting for a twit - whether it's a democratic twit or a republican one. People need to stop defending their twit and start demanding better pols.
I refuse to let a twit win me over. I'm a bad person - I know this.
BTW, Kikapu - this is totally off topic, but I have a demotivator dedicated to your words of wisdom (it works at least two ways, eh?):

Hi Dinos,
I love it.
You have made me very proud, and I'm very honoured.
Thank you so much. |

I'm glad you liked it, Kikapu.
Other than that, who does it right at the front door with the lights on? How tacky! |

I am a democrat, but because my party still doesn't get it on one particular issue and Obama is the worst offender, I am likely voting for McCain.
I do not like McCain either, but for a republican he is pretty much a moderate and as a result somewhat tolerable....and at least he's no Bush!
If Bill Richardson was our nominee, then it would have been a no brainer for me. Richardson against any republican or independent candidate would definitely get my vote. I wanted Richardson to win the nomination real bad. I even voted for him in the primary after he dropped out to show my support. |

No it wasn't. Since at that point it was just two candidates left and there was just a coin flip's difference between the two and since both were undesirable to me on one issue, my vote was sent as a message of my lack of confidence in both of them. It was anything but a wasted vote.
Also, if I vote for the Richardson delegates and for some reason the other two candidates died suddenly, then I think the nomination might have fallen to the candidate with the next highest number if my civics knowledge is correct. |

Novus,
You don't know what you are, that's why you can't make up your mind who to vote for. You sound like a very young person who is trying to find their own sexuality, but afraid to admit that they are in fact Gay, but want to convince themselves, that they are straight, until they get mature enough to admit the truth to themselves at least. You claiming to be a Democrat but will vote for McCain because your party and Obama does not get one particular issue is just a cop out. Jesus, you are luck you only have one particular issue with the Democrats. How many issues do you have with the Republicans. ??
Go find your sexuality first and then your politics will just fall in place by itself.
Just for the record, I hope Obama will pick Richardson for his running mate for the VP position. |

I am 38, straight and more liberal than Obama. I am a civil libertarian and Obama does not seem very dedicated to all civil liberties. The one issue I am referring to was just the last straw.
Obama and McCain have been moving toward each other politically for the past year anyway. I remember there was a joke going on when Hillary still had a chance. We used to joke there was only one candidate to choose from, but it had three bodies. |
