In the ROC you can say anything you want without fear (besides as we said you can do it anonymously :) ).

Any comments on the article?

Are you sure about this?? kindly recall the run up to the referendum YES voters were afraid to voice their opinions for fear of reprecussions, bomb explosions, smashed cars, verbal abuse, television censorship to confirm all this your opposition leader sent a letter of complaint about the undemocratic situation in the south, to the EU he was latter was forced by mounting pressure to retract his letter for fear of his life. the UN also included a message that Democracy in the south leaves a lot to be desired. Nothing has changed in the south the mentality and course antics which contributed to 1974 are still evident and will increase over time again confirming why we are unable to function as one and that the best solution is recongnized partition.

Obsiously you live in a parallel reality. I was in Cyprus during the referendum and all television stations were voicing the Yes/No 50%-50%!!!!! All parties could be heard equally. And absolutely no censorship (unlike all western nations). There were lawyers, consitutionalists etc. every night for almost a month explaining and discussing from both sides of the argument every article of the Anan plan!!!! I have never seen such a display of democracy in my life!!!! I've lived in Spain and the UK and these countries have a lot to be jelous from the Republic of Cyprus. Uk and Spanish citizens are in the blind about any political issues and the aristocracy that runs the states doesn't allow democracy to be exercised.

I don't know how the Turks are treating you in the occupied north but if there is a place in the world that has a "real" democracy is the ROC and Greece. Check your sources and don't post obsurd lies!

Sorry Fi, but I got totally the opposite impression when I was there during the referendum campaign. Granted my Greek is appalling, but there was a notable bias against the 'yes' campaign. This conclusion was supported by the findings of a study by IMME, which studied the media's stance during the campaign.

And I have conclusively studied certain comparitive reporting of events during the Cold War, for example - Nicaragua, and Britain comes off pretty bad too. But tell me Moose, what did we have to gain out of the Annan Plan? Can't you understand why we voted it down? Just take a look at the damn thing.

Absolutely not. Even though the majority of informed citizens were in favour of the No. On TV there was always one supporter of Yes and one supporter of No ALWAYS! Even when there were people who study the constitution there was one person backing the yes side and one person backing the no side.

The Yes side made a lot of gatherings, gave flyers, stickers in the street and as the No side no one bothered them!!!!!

(Take note that the US is believed to have funded the Yes campaign!!!! hmmmm interfering in ROC again.......)

Only wish that was the case in e.g. Spain, when the time for the E.U. Constitution referendum was on, you could only hear on TV the governement supporting the Yes and no other voice. And in the so many months before the vote no even once was there anyone to explaing it paragraph by paragraph, unlike the Anan plan!!!!

It seems the un-democratic voices are from outside of Cyprus that keep insisting on a plan that the people have said no to!! What we say in Cyprus is "Voice of the people, rage of the god". The people have spoken and you can't go saying that you have the freedom of choice but you have to choose this!!!!!
