there is no doubt that greece just like cyprus has been at war for most of her life. greece did do a lot to protect teh west but they dont get any special treatment. Has cyprus ever been totally controlled by Greeks? there must of been a short while. does anybody know?

It may be where Western civilisation began, but it moved on perfectly well without Greek leadership... as a result of which Western civilisation today owes little to the people of modern Greece.

Actually it laid the foundations of many things, most notably, learning and the arts, it's just that we take these things for granted. When Greco-Romanism began it gave Hellenism a vechile to spread around the European World, rather than the Eastern World in centuries past. Theatre was spread, mathematical theories, various sports, literature, philosophy, astronomy... Oh there are so many to mention i cant be bothered to go on.

Horace said it, and he was Roman:

"Graecia capta ferum victorem cepit et artes intulit agresti Latio."

"Captive Greece conquered her savage victor, and brought the arts into uncultured Latium (Rome)."
