everybody has a choice ,knowbody can false you to hand over your money, I go to the Casino once a week over here in England, I know my limit and once I have lost it, I have great fun watching other people trying their luck.

Because of the tourism aspect, I'm broadly in favour of Casino's in the GC area although I know it will cause hardship and problems for many, Greeks/Cypriots seem have a problem with gambling which in my experience (I've been going to casinos with GCs for almost 30 years) is only equalled by the Chinese.

I hope the govenment put some safeguards in place such as being able to ban certain people from all casinos on the island if they are considered at risk. As an example, I know of one married woman who cut up her husbands passport to stop him from losing any more money in the Turkish areas. He admitted to me he'd been losing around £2500 a week over the previous 3 weeks! Shocked

To go ahead without some safeguards would be very irresponsible, IMHO.

like someone already mentioned, people who are citizens of cyprus should not be allowed to enter the casinos.

ok, here's my view.

You (us? im a half and half) have spent the last two to three decades making a lot of money on the back of hard work and the clever plying of the tourism trade.

Please, for f**k sake, do not blow it all and waste it by doing all your dough and more besides on casino gambling.
I sincerely hope any govt in this country never contemplates such a stupid idea for real.

When I lived in England, I witnessed my greek relatives spank untold cash down the black hole in london's casinos....
they are souless hell holes, owned by greedy unscrupulous pigs who are laughing at the idiots at the tables. It's a joke. Really it is. and it is not fun. It's a sick illness.

and im someone who has been involved with gambling for over 20 years. Leave it.

My point is that if someone is passionate of doing something stupid for themselves just let them do it. They deserve it.

that story about the bloke who did 2,500 pounds a week and his wife tore up his passort. I'm still reeling with shock over that.

that's 10,000 a month. Staggering.

Jeez, man, what the hell. Please, Dear Lord, never introduce gambling of this sort in Greek Cyprus. The nation will sink without trace.

good to see that betting tax in the bookies are quite high. 25 % i believe.
back in blighty it is 0%, which is bad for the greeks in england!

it is not a choice. I disagree. How do you define choice? by that reckoning, we should have cocaine shops and open bordellos (well, you do have cabarets which i find sickening from a human rights view) and all kinds of weird f**ed up places.

casinos offer no choice they offer misery.

If people are THAT desperate to bloody gamble they should emigrate or open up online betting accounts and commit heinous crimes against their families and moral wrongs against the world's poor who cant afford to buy bread let alone spend £20 on a hand of blackjack.

The guy owns two very good business's, he's also a very proud and patriotic Greek Cypriot, who actually enjoys doing his part time military service, when I pointed out that the money he's giving the Turkish casino's might indirectly buy the bullet that could kill him, he agreed, but still went back! Rolling Eyes

Yes but I know of a Greek businessman that dropped CY£10k cash in 2 hours...

On second thoughts, I should change my vote to NO.

I'm intrigued, what are the casinos like north of the jolly green line??

Im a member of several back in Enger-land, and while the people who go their are pretty bottom of the barrel and one might expect, they are quite posh affairs.

Are they real dingy? I bet they stink. I bet the croupiers who work there dress in smelly, coffee stained, Hitchcock-esque dinner jackets and dusty bow ties, and have maniacal glints in their eyes when they call 'no more bets'.

Horrid.
Strange choice of industry too - why do the Turks love offering casinos to tourists?

....Stupid question.

Stupid is the understatement of 2005. Your postulation about the casinos and croupiers is pure racism and is unworthy of inclusion in this forum, as you admittedly haven't a clue about the subject matter. Neither have I, as the last casino I entered was in Divonne in about 1964, but I certainly would not speculate about the body hygiene of the croupiers in any casino in the world. Stupid racism.
