division it is then.

but one question vhen wi lived together did you boys want roc or not.

you are trying very hard to find excuses now it is the civil service. cut the civil service to an average if you like and remove the governments too. we dont need all the mps and ministers. just have to pashas and job done. one for each side. boris pasha in london looks after the interests of 10 million people.

hows that for efficiency. but it still has to be two zones. no need for federal government either. job done bobs your uncle.

Lordo, you did not get my gist at all.

If you are a Cypriot you must know the habit present in both communities, to seek a secure well paid civil service job. And that being such a prize almost everyone is ready to employ all means, fair and foul, to get these "positions".

The federal positions will be even more coveted. And what I am predicting is that there will be a new, cross communal class of parasite, the federal civil servants that will sit on our necks creating new rules and regulations to justify their "positions". And this new buraucracy being a mix of GCs and TCs will project their intercommunality to claim superiority and special privileges. They will be our new common aristocracy. Reminds me of what I read about the time when the Nicosia aristocracy, GC and TC, met the British for tea at the Ledra Palace.

I am betting that this new federal class will even push for the acquisition of an executive jet to facilitate their Nicosia-Brussels travel. That will be the test.

Storrs, the British governor of Cyprus in the 1920s wrote something that is relevant, describing how he met the national council made up of GCs and TCs, all leading citizens of the two communities. He tells of how one was a bishop, the rest were a mix of lawyers and doctors, and ALL were money lenders. Usury was the curse of the island back then, till the cooperative movement neutralised it. So I wonder about the looming "federal class" and their role.

i got your gist nikitas but it is unfounded. we can only have what we can afford. it is up to cypriots to vote for people to do the right thing. civil servants do not make decisions. it is not their fault that every time a political party wins they fill the place up with their own party members as civil servants.

Lordo,

I strongly recommend re-viewing some episodes of "Yes Minister" and think of it in a Cypriot context.

The potential solution would be to have the officials of the regions assume parallel federal duties. However, I fear that the solution proposed by both our political classes will be for a separate and additional federal civil service.

We will know soon enough.

It will be separate but it can be proportional. This day an age when using technology the civil service need not be burdening. i take you point about the civil service controlling the politicians as in the yes minister but it is about time our politicians grew some balls. now i see one tc politician who has already he has them. lets see if we get any reciprocation.

...well said Nikitas. multi-tasking comes to mind, an everyday occurrence computers now facilitate, and given where we are in space and time, Cypriots must prepare to enter the Information Age, Cyprus must be prepared to develop this new thinking at its advent, into their reform as a People. The technological frontiers having changed, so too must we adapt from the aims that were started by the Modern Age.

Bicommunal is not evil, neither is Bizonal, the danger lies in the intentions of those who seek to give them a definition.
