Actually I do not want that monitor at all, it was just used an example of what for me has been a long term example of 'rip of Britain', namely the difference in effective price of IT based products in the UK vs their equivalent price in say the USA. From when I bought my first computer, an atari 400, where the price in the UK was effectively double that paid by someone buying the same in the US, to today where the price is still significantly higher.

As far as I am thinking of a new monitor I am looking currently more at something like this

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showprod ... =MO-077-AC

IPS based panel, with refresh rates up to 144Hz with Gysnc tech of decent size and resolution.

Part of the additional cost is the 20% VAT. That monitor is also much cheaper at Amazon.it:
http://www.amazon.it/dp/B00U2FE3HY
679.70 EUR is the equivalent of 480 GBP ... thats 240 GBP cheaper than at overclockers.

I am looking at Amazon for my next Apple Laptop purchase. I use to buy from stores in Australia but that option is more difficult now.

Stores are too expensive too but I am concerned with warranties etc.

All the best.

No. 7 on my List of UK Rip Offs.
DUTY FREE AIRPORT SHOPS.

Of course the so called " duty free" rip offs exist the world over. Apart from tobacco NOTHING else is cheaper than high street or on line shops. These rip off merchants play on the impact that the word " duty free" has on the naïve traveller who rushes to buy believing a bargain is on offer !!

I rarely drink whiskey but I do like it now and again. In Cyprus I buy Glenfiddich 12 year old for about 25 euros, in the UK you can buy it also for under 30 quid, at the Duty Free almost £ 40.

It always amazes me as to how gullible the travelling public can be. These shops exist to make profit, exorbitant profits. The shops do not pay any duty but this does not stop them from fleecing the naïve public.

My No. 6
Currency Exchange Bureaus

Moving on to this widespread con closely associated with duty free rip off merchants.

One can not miss the abundance of these con merchants in all airports, as I mostly fly from Gatwick I always get annoyed at the audacity of these con merchants, advertising in large letters NO COMMISSION !!!
The spread, difference between buying and selling currency a staggering 40% !!! Yet naïve travellers rush to either exchange their foreign currency or to purchase their Euros, dollars etc.

There are so many of these rip off merchants spread throughout the airport and if you happened to miss them then you will find them in departure lounges.

I have on numerous occasions, politely asked operators to erect a Wealth Warning sign. They are bloody crooks playing on the naivety of the travelling public.

My No.5 on my list of UK Rip off merchants.

BT ( I dare you to sue me for revealing the truth )

Spending a lot of time at my sons house due to circumstances arising out of his wife's deteriorating illness, a cancerous brain tumour.

I came across a telephone bill from BT and to say I was shocked is an understatement. A standing charge including Broadband at £53.98 per month. I gave up BT both at business and work years ago when I discovered that competitive providers offered much much cheaper rates. Since the vast majority of Brits associate BT with telephones little effort is made to discover that by switching they can save them selves a vast amount of money.

I soon changed provider, a monthly charge of £21.99 exactly the same as that of BT.
For an extra £10 a month you can have unlimited calls at no charge to European destinations including Cyprus.

All mobile and national calls are also included.
Its no wonder that according to the Guardian : BT boss Gavin Patterson can collect up to £7m a year !!!
7 fucking million a year !!! He must have archidhia weighing 100 kg EACH !!

My no. 4 on my rip off list.

118 118 Director enquiries.

How on earth are these super con artists allowed to continue ripping consumers off I will never know ( SUE ME IF YOU DARE )
I never use this service since you can find almost everything on google and other search engines.
Some time last year my older brother came into my office one early morning and told me he had found a mans wallet in his road. There was no money in the wallet but a number of credit cards and other id documents with the name of the owner of the wallet. There was no telephone number, I did a quick search on google using the mans name to no avail.

We both decided that the man who lost the wallet must live in the road that my brother lives, so for the first time ever I dialled 118 118 gave the mans name and that he lived in Ederline Avenue London SW16,

The operator gave me the number asking if I wanted to be connected to it. Yes please I replied.
The phone rung, a man answered, I asked if he was the owner of the wallet giving the name on the various ids and he confirmed he was. I told him I had his wallet, he was unaware of its loss, thanked me and asked where to collect it from , my office is not that far away so half an hour later a very grateful man was reunited with his wallet.

A week or so later I received my telephone bill. An itemised item attracted my attention . 1 call to 118 118 was charged at £12.76 !!!

I wasn't going to have this despicable charge, I contacted 118 118 using their customer service number and I must admit they were very polite and agreed to pay me back their charge , £5.38 !!!

So the telephone service provider added a hefty £7.38 ON TOP. !!
Bloody crooks !!
So if you happen to be inn the UK NEVER NEVER use 118 118.
