10 BIGGEST UK RIP OFFS

Postby miltiades » Fri Jul 24, 2015 8:47 pm

Having lived in the UK for 54 years, Im more than qualified to express views based on realities and observations over the many years.
I have a list of what I consider the 10 worst rip offs that occur in the UK on a daily basis affecting a great many number of mostly naïve individuals, innocent shoppers, consumers or participants..

I will start with rip off no 10.

TV License.
Paid annually in advance or quarterly by direct debit that attracts a charge.

BBC or TV License is a legal obligation that should you wish to challenge this ludicrous charge of £145.50 per annum it could cost you considerably more than the legalized robbery fee.
BBC executives receive huge salaries all funded by Joe Blocks, weather men and women presenting the weather receive in excess of a quarter of a million pounds a year. It is true that BBC produces some excellent programmes but so do other channels. You could be fined £1000 for not having a license or even go to prison.

Will tell you about no 9 rip off soon..

They should’ve thrown you out of England ages ago. I don’t know why they tolerate you! :?

That’s the only thing that baffles me... surely there's gotta be some deportation law for people like you... :?

You have to pay the fee even if you don't have a TV?

I personally think the UK's license fee is great value and am happy to pay it in order to receive quality programming with a public service mandate without advertising.

in that case it is not that bad. We also pay for CyBC indirectly though our taxes... and everybody pays, even those who don't have a TV!

Sorry to butt in miltiades but one of my rip off Britain bug bears

http://accessories.euro.dell.com/sna/sn ... nch-and-up
Dell UltraSharp U3014 from dell UK - £1149 - approx. 1780 usd

from dell us site
http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/prod ... u=225-4429

1222.99 USD

that pisses me off. Still not as bad as it used to be. I remember my very first computer I ever owned - an Atari 400 - was £350 in the UK shops and was 350USD in the US and that was at a time when £1 was worth around 2USD. So better than then but still rip of Britain as far as I am concerned (or rip of Dell maybe ?)

Presenters are still paid millions at ‘rip-off’ BBC
It is believed the top presenters may include Graham Norton and Gary Lineker, who both get about £2million a year.
THE BBC was branded a “rip-off” yesterday after revealing it is spends £203million on talent and presenters’ salaries.

It seems that Im not the only one who considers TV license a rip off.

I do not dispute that BBC produces some excellent programmes as well as some crap watched by millions of unsophisticated Brits. EastEnders comes to mind !

TV Licensing is vigorously pursued by the BBC, at work I receive numerous warning letters about the risks of watching TV with no license, We don't have TV at work, a monitor attached to cameras yes but not TV as such. I file all warning letters in the bin.
