Another political killing in Turkey

Postby Tim Drayton » Sat Nov 28, 2015 1:36 pm

Head of the Diyarbakır Bar Association, Tahir Elçi, the object of death threats ever since he stated in a television interview, "The PKK is not a terrorist organisation. Even if some of the PKK’s actions are of a terroristic nature, the PKK is an armed political movement. It is a political movement which has political demands and has very serious support in society," has recently been shot dead in Diyarbakır.

To my mind, the AKP’s much vaunted new Turkey is becoming more and more reminiscent of the old Turkey I recall from the 1990’s. Sadly, I expect there to be more political killings in Turkey until the necessary climate of fear has been established to enable Erdoğan to fully consolidate his dictatorship.

There are reports of a shoot-out going on at the moment in the centre of the city of Diyarbakır, with one person dead.

More signs that the AKP's disastrous policies are taking Turkey back to the 1990's.

 Quit wasting your time with individuals and concentrate on the bigger picture because Turkey has been murdering individuals forever and if we were to start a thread for each and every one of them we’d be doing nothing else all day!
