Unfortunately people always confuse the notion of Nation to that of State.
I'm sorry for that.

P.S.
Besides i placed the quotation marks in case some body misunderstands the true meaning of my post.

When there is a state there is also a separate nation these two always go together hand in hand.

The international Law , the UN charter recognise the ROC as a separate nation.

The Greek nation never existed in real it has no history !

WOW !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where do you teach history ,you said ?

Nation

Postby shoushoucos » Wed May 24, 2006 3:26 pm

There was never a Greek nation as such in existence prior to the 1821

There were various small states or towns only

Those states are now comprising the so called: hellenic Democracy!

It is very much like ottman empire remnants which are now called Turkey.......... more or less

You have obviously totally misunderstood me!
I was ironically refererred to the notion that Cyprus is an etnically cohesive nation in which the parts are homogenized so as to form a new breed of people.Of course i'm against the Annan Plan or any other plan by any other name that is based on those unheard of principles.
Cyprus can be a nation based on the citizenship of its cohabitants and not of their ethnic or religion background.
I hope that your fears about my person being an Ananist have been resolved.

Justfies to call the Cyprus nation a joke?

Did I call the Greek nation a Joke?

I am afraid you are confused on this notion.

The word /term Nation in English (and that of "ethnos" in Greek,) contain two different definitions. There is the socio-anthropological definition, which refers to a group of people dissenting from the same genealogical stock (race, tribe, etc) that also share a common language, more often a common religion, common customs and traditions, etc; and there is also the political and international law definition of the term which refers to the people of one country sharing the same territorial entity and the same citizenship. That is why we can have the American Nation, which is a mixture of different races, nevertheless a nation by itself.

In such a case, and in view of the fact that Cyprus officially and legally exists as a separate sovereign country, naturally (based on the above political definition,) the people that legally live in its territory and hold its citizenship, do constitute a nation that is called the Cypriot nation. Unless of course if you prefer to see Cyprus to be de jure partitioned, with two separate sovereign entities (states /countries,) so that this will allow you to continue denying the existence of a Cypriot nation, but instead to continue claiming the existence of two separate and different nations in Cyprus, i.e. the Greek (Cypriot) one in the south, and the Turkish (Cypriot) one in the north.

What if I did?

You have to realise that it is people with views like yours that the Turkish pro-partition nationalist propaganda is using, in order to consolidate its arguments and claims visa vie the nature of the solution that we should have in Cyprus. In fact, you are not saying anything different than what Denktash has been professing all along (“in Cyprus the only Cypriots are the donkeys,”) until he started convincing the international community for the “rightfulness” and “truthfulness” of his vision, hence we got the Annan plan from the UN itself!

However, the international community did not start becoming convinced by Denktash and the Turkish propaganda, alone! It also started becoming convinced of this idea, after carefully monitoring and analysing the deeds and preaching of suckers like you among the Greek Cypriot community. Suckers like you who unfortunately exist in large numbers among us, and who feel ashamed to touch the Cypriot flag, but who instead rush with every single stupid opportunity out of their houses and in the streets, wrapped with the Greek flag, in order to celebrate. Suckers like you who, while a Cypriot football team plays against a Turkish team, they will take hundreds of Greek flags in the stadium but absolutely not a single Cypriot one, disheartening the few Turkish Cypriots who came to the stadium to see a Cypriot team playing against a Turkish one and ready to celebrate its victory because they thought it was a Cypriot team. It is suckers like you, who, like the other sucker, the known “VW” singer that presented the voting results of Cyprus the other night for the Eurovision contest, who feel ashamed to say they are Cypriots but instead that they are only Greeks. It is suckers like you who will go and demonstrate on every 15th of November at the green line against the declaration of the “TRNC,” but they will go there with the Greek flags instead of the Cypriot ones (what an oxymoron and paradoxical idea indeed!) It is suckers like you that they hear and see, who, as soon as someone says in the media that there is a need to create a Cypriot (RoC) national anthem -different from the Greek one, they start screaming out in the media and ask for his beheading for daring to suggest something like that, something which they view as an anathema and an attempt to “de-hellenise” them (sic,) as if our entire and centuries old Greekness depends only and revolves only around a piece of cloth and a song!

Of course the foreigners -when they see all these capricious and “ethno-malako-centric” attitudes and behaviours among the Greek Cypriot community, will eventually become convinced that Denktash and the Turkish nationalists have a point and that they are right in their propaganda claims!

Suckers!
Traitors without cause!

Why are you speechless my friend?

Do I make a mistake in identifying you with all the above?

Do I make a mistake when I say that you are ashamed to touch –set aside hold- the Cypriot flag?
Do I make a mistake when I say that you sound like one of those right-wing suckers who on every single stupid occasion will grasp and wrap around them the Greek flag and run into the streets or stadiums in order to celebrate or support their team?
Do I make a mistake when I say that you feel ashamed to say you are a Cypriot, especially when you find yourself abroad?

Do I make a mistake when I say that you sound like those suckers who will go mad and start screaming in the media and even go out and demonstrate, if and when someone says publicly that Cyprus needs to have its own national anthem, and should stop using the Greek one, since we rightfully claim to be a separate, independed and multicultural country, and not just a mainland Greek province?

If I make a mistake, then say it and I will apologise to you! Say that you are nothing of the above, and I will take back what I said and it is directed to you personally.

If not, then you have to accept that you are one of the many G/C suckers who only dance in the tunes of the Zorne and the toumbelek (timbal) that the Turkish propaganda plays for you! If you are among those suckers I described above, at least recognise the damage that you are causing to struggle your compatriots carry in order to re-unite this country in a natural, fair, democratic way and get rid of the Turkish occupation one day! If you are among those suckers, at least recognise that the only thing you are all achieving, is to carry water with a bucket and pour it into the water mills of the Turkish chauvinist and pro-partition propaganda, which claims that the two communities must live separately because they are not one people (nation,) but instead two different ones, and they ask for this to be recognised and accepted by the rest of the world! You are the examples which prove the Turkish thesis and claims, and you are among the moral perpetrators for having solution proposals like the racist and divisive Annan plan! You are the living evidence that proves them right in what they claim, and you appear like the mirror image of the Turkish nationalist elements among the T/C community.

Do I make a mistake? Then say it and I will apologise to you alone, but not to all the rest of those G/Cs that indeed behave in the above ways!
