Mailing Addresses in the North

Postby magikthrill » Thu Jan 20, 2005 8:40 am

Is it true that in order for someone to send a letter to the pseudo-state they have to write Turkey otherwise it won't be delivered?

ACTUALLY YOU HAVE TO WRITE AT THE END OF ADDRESS IS:

MERSIN 10

Otherwise it will get lost.

It used to be true that you had to add "Mersion 10 TURKEY" at the end of your mail address if you wanted mail to be delivered to the north through Turkey because most of the mail was not delivered from the south to the north.

However, I have been using simply my address in the past 3-4 years and it goes to the Greek side, then the Greek side stamps a "Remember to use a Zip Code" sign on the letter and sends to the north. Most of the time, the mail does not get lost but occassionaly it does.

I have family working in the south and i send it to his work address and then in turn he distributes it for me to the intended person, and so far bless the ROC mail service nothing lost.

interesting.

personally, I would trust my mail with the south of not getting lost. not because they are GCs but because they are also Cypriots, who seem to be more efficient than Greeks and Turks combined :)

Bulio, in regard to the efficiency of mostly partisan, populist Cypriots in compare with Greece and Turkey.
