Checked about taxi's and told that the cost from Nicosia to Kyrenia ( Girnie ) is between 30 and 40 lira. That is between £11 and £15. To hira a car for the day is around £20. All cars at that price are this years models.
Hope this helps.

Agios Dometios (Nicosia) 35°10.968'N, 33°19.378'E - Do not attempt to cross at Ledra Palace, it is for pedestrians & cyclists only.

Black Knight (British Eastern Sovereign Base Area) 35°05.764'N, 33°54.071'E

Pergamos (Just North of Pyla) 35°02.265'N, 33°42.413'E

Just for completeness, you can also cross at Bostanci (Turkish name) -Zodhi (Greek name) 35° 10' 0N, 33° 0' 0E on the west of the Island between Astromeritis and Morphou. This one is definitely for cars only and I'm not sure if you can buy insurance there.

I would still say that a taxi from Ledra Palace to the centre of Kyrenia would cost you not far off twenty pounds, but I'd agree that you would get change. Taxis are all metered.

Assuming that you are walking through Ledra Palace, you will be close to the centre of Nicosia so within a fairly short walking distance you can get a shared taxi (dolmuş - pnonounced dollmoosh) or a bus - no regular service but during the day a fairly steady stream of privately owned mini-buses.

If you want either of the latter, ask for the Kyrenia (Girne) gate to the city walls where there is a tourist information office, and buses and shared taxis running outside.

Enjoy your holiday

Last week I took a collective taxi (turkish: Dolmus) from Nicosia (North) to Girne. They go in a 10 min frequency and cost 4YTL per person (about 1£). The same back.

You can take a hire car across from RoC to Turkish occupied area without any problem, I've been over lots of times and have had no problems with the driving up there, just keep a bit of room around you and you'll be fine, you must pay between CY£10-20 for the Turkish insurance which is valid for 72 hours.

The Colony is a nice hotel but the Dome in Kyrenis is IMHO a better position.
