Exit visas

Postby Gigi » Sat Apr 28, 2007 8:55 am

On leaving Cyprus with my son I was told that next time he enters Cyprus he will need a visa to leave as he is 17 he has a English passport and a Cypriot father.
Where is the best place to get this done? and how long will it take?

Gigi
I think someone is trying to stop you from leaving.
If your son has an english passport, he can come and go as he pleases..
do you have problems with relatives..

My son has never had a problem when leaving or enering Cyprus

I dont know if this is because his Mother is Cypriot as opposed to his Father

I have heard of this problem before and have heard of cases many years ago where british passport holders with a Cypriot Father were actually stopped at the airport and not allowed to leave before they completed some form of National Service

You don't need one if you are older than a certain stage. Can't remember for the life of me what it is. Its in the 20's though. I have a lifetime one which I keep in my passport at all times. I believe they only give annual ones now which can be a pain in the backside.

A friend of mine was in Cyprus 2 years ago and he needed one to go home. He was 33 at the time. We went to Nicosia to get one for him from the Army bases there. Was a painless process taking around 20mins or so.

Thank you for all your reply`s.
My husband had the visa at the back of his passport as well, but he holds a Cypriot passport.
Should I try the High Commision in London?

Correct me if I am wrong but anyone over 21 years old does not need exit visa. I read this sometime ago.

I was told years ago that legally I did not need an exit permit. However because I had a Greek name it was suggested that I got one in case one of the passport control idiots didn't like my face and caused a delay that could mean missing a flight. Both my sons are in their 30s, Greek names, British passports, they had no problem in Paphos last year, I think they have at last realised in Cyprus that not everyone with a Greek Cypriot name is a citizen of that country.
