Visiting Paphos for the first time

Postby stepluke » Sun May 13, 2007 11:27 am

We (two adults and a 6-year-old) will be visiting Paphos for the first time this year. We arrive in late May and are staying at the Avanti.

Any suggestions/insider tips for what the best things to see/do during our stay would be welcomed.

Information:
- We will be hiring a car for ~3 days of our stay.
- I enjoy sea fishing
- Historical sites are of interest

We are also keen to hear about any good eating-out ideas - especially for my 40th, which will be during our stay!

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum , I do hope that your stay in Paphos will be an enjoyable and a happy experience .
Try visiting the Tombs of the Kings and some of the villages around Paphos especially my village Stroumbi. !!
Plenty of restaurants to choose from .The old Harbour provides good eating , a little on the expensive site , but you are on holiday and it is a lovely spot. Visit the Castle while you are there.
Have a great time and many happy returns on your birthday in Paphos.

Welcome stepluke. Historical sites are too many to see in the few days you will have a car.
By car: Lemba prehistoric village (20 minutes), St. Neophitos Monastery(20 minutes), Kouklia Aphrodites sanctuary (20 minutes), St George fishing harbour (30 minutes), Petra Tou Romiou Aphrodites birth blace (30 minutes), Aphrodites Baths (1 hour), Curium Amphitheatre (1 hour), Appolos Sanctuary ETC.....
By foot: The mosaics, The house of Dionysos), Tombs of the kings, St. Pauls pillars ETC....
For sea fishing if you walk down to the harbour you can book a fishing trip with one of the boats.
Don't worry there will be so much information on what to do when you get here that it will confuse you.
Have a nice holiday!

Visit the Akamas & Chrysochous bay

Postby Catlover1964 » Thu May 17, 2007 2:53 pm

Hi there

Cyprus is a great choice for your birthday!
If you like fishing (not sure if you are bringing any equipment with you?), there are plenty of outdoor shops in the Polis area (45 mins from Paphos) and there are always some locals fishing in the sea off Chrysochous bay - on the coast road at Argaka (E704 road) - I'm sure they will help you or even let you fish as they are so friendly.

The historical sites of the Tombs of the Kings and the Mosaics in Paphos will be enjoyable for you but you may also want to visit Kourion - near Limassol - about 40 mins drive from Paphos. There's a fantastic amphitheatre there and lots of remains of the former Roman capital Kourion.

Enjoy your trip!

Back from holiday now, had a great time.

Highlights:
* Fat Mamas (http://www.fatmamasonline.com/)
* Brasilieros (http://www.brasileirocyprus.com/)
* Underwalkers (walking on the sea bed)
* Aphrodite waterpark
* All the great archeology (Kourion, mosaics, tombs of the kings, etc...)

Lowlights
* Excel flight (crowded, shocking service)
* Fishing trip (Dinos) that turned around when a lady needed the toilet
