We deserve a Nobel for hypocrisy

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby insan » Tue Feb 08, 2005 12:21 am

that would be a violation of freedome of speech, which is a basic human right.

Freedom of speech is one thing, treason is another thing. If they are "traitors" as Piratis alleged, so-called RoC should sue them because of treason. Treason is a crime according to laws of all countries...

Insan, nobody can put them to jail because of something that they said, and this is why we have freedom of speech. Laws are above everything. This might seem bad in some cases, but it can not be otherwise.

For example some thieves some years ago used the stockmarket in order to put in their pockets millions of pounds. But they did this in legal ways and now the state is unable to convict those people. Does this mean that those people are not thieves? From a legal perspective, they are not. But we all know that if fact they are. This is the case with these journalists as well.

Everyone should be allowed to speak his mind. If you don't like what you hear, you should also have the right to respond with your own arguments. This is what Democracy is all about.

What troubles me, is to see GCs and TCs of the same ideology and visions, who simply talk. They criticize left and right, but do not have the guts to act. If they put to practice 5% of what they preach, I would a lot more respect for them.
I would like to see GC/TC corporations, sports teams, schools, NGOs, political parties. Do they exist, but we don't hear about them?

So, accusing those people as "traitors" is your and some others interpretation. Actually you too, admit that those people's freedom of speech don't constitute any chargeable offence according to the laws of RoC.

But incase they have committed any chargeable offence as you alleged - that treason is a chargeable offence- ; at least RoC should have opened an investigation about them.

You claim that there are strong body of evidence that these persons are "traitors" paid by US. So, why doesn't the Banana RoC open an investigation about them? Or, is treason considered as freedom of speech in Banana RoC?

Actually this all what we need to defrost the icebergs between us. But a genuine and consistent cooperation don't seem possible to me before a permenant sloution is found.

Is it illegal to receive money from abroad to write things? no it is not. So nobody can convict them.

This doesn't mean of course that I can not use my freedom of speech and call them what they really are: traitors.

And nobody can stop me from saying this either.

By the way, RoC is indeed a semi-banana republic*, and this due to the Turks and the British. Thankfully we avoided becoming the best banana Republic that ever existed by rejecting the Annan plan.

In any case, an EU semi-banana republic is about 100 times better than be governed by whomever is appointed by a foreign country (which is your case)

* Because of the unfair provisions in the constitution about TCs, the british bases, and the "guarantors".

This is total BS Insan, and you know it.

The TCs who dare to cross to the south and work, are treated as "traitor" by some in the north, but this does not stop them from working and making a living.

The same does not happen in the south. They are beyond that stage. They employ all the races of the earth in the south now, why not the TCs?

When people of the two communities buy and sell to each other, everything is fine. Our level of cooperation is limited only to financial transactions, nothing more. A permanent solution will come only when we learn to trust each other, not before. Compromise and outlets from the political leaders, would come when they are demanded by the voters.
What politician would risk to go against his supporters wishes? Why did the AKEL leaders switched positions after the referenda?
What is Talat doing right now? He position is "no more isolation". Why? Because this what sells both to the TCs and the ruling "elite".
And yes, Talat is not part of the ruling "elite" and he will never be allowed to join the "club". He is "prime minister" without a back-bone. The "state" has been "operating" without a budget for the last two years. No money = No power. Who finances his trips abroad? Who pays for his salary? Who collects taxes from who?
I get the feeling, after listening to the TC politicians on the CYBC tonight, that the upcoming elections in the north are going to be another joke. Well dear Insan, you cannot continue to have talks with "jokes" and puppet like Denktash (father and son INC.) or Talat and expect to have results.
The "veils" should drop, if we are going to have a lasting solution in Cyprus. Turkey should sit across the table with ROC leader, directly. Turkey is behind every move and act in the north. There is nobody behind the ROC. ROC is independent (that is the reason why we are always in trouble). Turkey should recognize the ROC and deal with it directly, state to state. Open all cards and play honestly. All proxies should stay off the table.

What all you said above sound BS to me, Pantelis. Total, crap! You as a person who don't know how to properly communicate with the others; talk about cooperation and give us lessons. Keep it yourself Pantelis!

So, let me get this straight. The RoC is a Banana Republic because of the unfair provisions in the constitution about TCs, the British bases and the guarantors...do you really think before you write a post or you just write to oppose people? You damn well know that even though provisions exist in the constitution to protect TCs, these provisions have not been applied for 40 years now! (42 years to be exact!) and you're telling me that the RoC is a Banana Republic because of something that hasn't been applied for 42 years?

Yes, you're right, dear pantelis. In democracies, everybody has the right to respond with arguments not with false and unfounded accusations.
