Long stay questions

Postby justpassinthru » Thu Jul 05, 2007 11:38 am

Hi, we are planning a long stay in Paphos region this winter, (Approx 5.5 months). My wife's mother is travelling with us and needs to bring along prescription medicines. She can only get 1 month's supply in the UK and will need to replenish the medicine in Cyprus. Does anyone have experience of this problem? If so, I'd appreciate some answers to the following:-
1. Can she simply take her UK prescription to a pharmacist or will she need to see a cypriot doctor first?
2.Is there anyway of finding out whether her particular medicines are readily available in Cyprus?

Also, as we will be staying in Cyprus longer than 3 months, I understand we need to apply for a residency permit - I'd also appreciate any info on the procedure for doing this i.e where to go to get the permit, documents required, possible problems in getting the permit.

Any information on the above would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Chris.

Hi,

Has your mother-in-law tried explaining the situation to her doctor in the UK? She may be able to get more medicine that way...

I know my father gets more of his medicine this way but the maximum he usually stays is two months so it may be different.

Cypriot pharmacies are very well stocked so chances are that it would be available over there but I guess that depends what it is.

There is a forum called www.cyprusliving.org which is based in Paphos it is mainly expats living in Paphos who use it so they may be able to answer your questions for you if you post on there as I know a lot of them are retired and use medication in Cyprus.

Again, they may be able to answer your question about residency permits etc.

Hope this helps,

Viv

Hi Viv,

Thanks very much for the info - I believe my mother-in-laws's doctors surgery are looking into getting her 3 months supply. I'll try the forum you suggest and find out what the specific medicines are. Thanks again for your reply.

i dont see how she cant use her prescription here. pharmacies here are not anal about that kind of stuff. as for the medicine being in stock, i wouldnt worry about that either. we get most medicine from europe and the uk. you can try calling a random pharmacy before you get here
