Cyprus villa row hits Britons who 'could lose everything'

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Hello Everyone,
If you are happy with your relations with the UK and the animosity Southern Cyprus is fuelling not only towards English people but many others..then you have nothing to worry about. Dont forget Southern Cyprus receives over 1.2 million tourists from the UK every year, thats a big contribution to your economy. Keep it up I am sure if you get a positive result in UK which is very questionable then you will have a lot of siezed English property to sell off and obtain compensation (ring any bells?), this does not really serve your purpose in the long run of wanting the return of your original properties.

The only solution is to return to the table and negotiate in good faith for return of properties under a global mechanism which takes into account the current situation, if left to late this "current situation" will continue to become more and more complicated and a lot more pre 1974 owners will not be able to return to their properties.

As i said previously, I personally believe that the property issue should be more flexible towards Greek Cypriots and incorporate aspects that would answer most of their needs as far as it is possible under the "current situation"

If the Britons treat us right, we will treat them right. If they don't, then they should not expect from us the best. Take your colonial attitude and shove it in your ass. Most british people will not dislike Cypriots simply because Cypriots are trying to get back what they own. Apparently the reason you react in this way is a lot more personal.

And by the way, UK is among the least liked in the rest of EU, so try to correct your image first before giving lessons to us. Be less arrogant and stop siding with the Americans on everything and then maybe other Europeans will like UK more.

Absolutely agree with Piratis about the property issue, what belongs to someone legally must be returned to them regardless of ethnicity! No argument, Non negotiable. Whats right is right anything else is wrong.

But being British and a worthy son of Satan I do however take exception to his final paragraph and I bet no ones sleeping well in the UK tonight now they know they are the least popular of all the Europeans. The consolation for being unpopular is that if the UK was any more popular than it is already it will be standing room only. Other Europeans and peoples from elsewhere are enthralled by UK lessons, UK universities have higher proportions of European (Home) and Overseas students than ever. We have not always sided with the Americans, fought three times lost twice won once. They sided with us twice in the 20th century and we sided with them once but notably refused to side with them in Vietnam for which Cyprus paid the price some years later. Leaving aside UN approved wars it gets from here on in very murky culminating in Iraq for the moment but with others on the hit list. Iraq has probably done more damage to Anglo American relationships than anything since the British fought a war for independence against the British, later called the American War of Independence, but it has not driven the UK into the heart of Europe, why? Perhaps centuries old mistrust of the European powers and or the legacy of two world wars who knows? So UK popularity in Europe is not top of the priority list amongst most Brits. Having said all this I'm probably as European as your going to get with a Cypriot wife a French mother an English father and an Irish grandmother, my daughters married to a German and my son will shortly marry a Spanish girl.
Now tell me I'm not a European!

Don't wish to be a party-pooper, but has anybody here noticed that the court has postponed its decision on the appeal by the Orams to May 11 and therefore that the issue has not been decided in law one way or another. Apparently the judge lost one of the affidavits. Do go on please but just thought I'd mention it.

13. We conclude that British citizens who intend to buy property in northern Cyprus risk exposing themselves to legal action by Greek Cypriots who may be the rightful owners of those properties. We recommend that the Government lose no opportunity to warn prospective purchasers of this risk. (Paragraph 200)

Judge lost some paperwork sounds a bit dodgy.
