Postby Grizz » Tue Aug 07, 2007 7:15 am

I am coming to Cyprus on Holiday (Mid Oct),As this is my first visit in 27 years a lot must have changed since I was last there.I would like some general advice ie what is the weather like at that time of year, would I be better off changing my money on the island or before I arrive. the approx cost of a taxi from Paphos airport to Paphos,is it better to book hire car before arrival or on island . I will be bringing my wife and 2 children for there first visit, are the locals as friendly as I rememder them to be.
Any help will be greatfully recieved,Thank you. :D

Days will be warm, but evenings cool so you will need jackets for night time. The best way regarding money is to bring Sterling cash and change it at the shops in the the tourist area. You get a good exchange rate and do not pay commission. Do NOT change money in the UK. You can use the ATMs which are everywhere but you will be charged by your bank for doing so.
I think taxis into Paphos from the airport are around C£16.
It is best to get your hire car in Paphos, there are many local companies who will give you better rates at that time of year. You can always haggle with them to get a better deal!
You will find such a lot has changed in Cyprus - we just met up with someone in Limassol who had not been here for 40 years, They tried to find their old house, but drove around for hours and couldn't recognise anything.
Enjoy your holidays!

Most supermarkets and all telephone shops will sell the sim cards. You need a "So Easy" card which costs C£15 including C£3 of calls. Phone calls are very cheap from here. I don't know where you can get one before you come. Top ups for the card are available at most kiosks.

Hi

Everything HAS changed in the last 27 years - I've only known Cyprus for 12 years and it's certainly different.
But there is one unspoilt place still left (Paphos has been totally spoilt in my view - far too much development) - that's the Polis/Latchi area.
We still have the beautiful undeveloped Akamas peninsula and whilst there is some building development over this way, the area still has its charm and all the attractions for theoutdoor enthusiast.

Check out this useful website for what the weather's really like all year round, things to see and do in the area, good restaurants to try etc

Have a great holiday
