Halil Agha

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Halil Agha

Postby T_C » Wed Aug 15, 2007 9:15 pm

Just to prove that we are and have always been Cypriots as opposed to murderers who "butchered" and "enslaved" GCs for "hundreds of years".

Did anyone else know that TCs along with GCs ASSASINATED Chil Osman because of the high taxes?

In the end Chil Osman and 18 of his friends were killed by Greek and Turkish Cypriots alike but the two ethnic elements had to pay a huge sum of money to the Sultan and the families of the victims. It was assessed that each Christian had to pay 14 piastres and each Turk 7. The latter did not accept this judgement and broke into an open rebellion having Khalil Agha, the commander of the guard of the castle of Kyrenia as their leader. Finally the uprising was crushed and Khalil Agha was beheaded.

1766 - 1766 Halil Agha (in rebellion) (d. 1766)

TCs as greedy as always! What they wanted? For Greeks to pay 20 piastres and Turks 1?

We know that T_C. It's just there is too much confusion about who was a Turk and who was an Ottoman. The turks themselves suffered and were contempted in the Ottoman empire.

I said in another topic that Cyprus suffered more from the Arabs than the Ottomans anyway....

Trying to identify who originates from who in Cyprus is just a silly game. Chimera for example might originate from Latins

All people suffer when they are ruled by incompetent rulers who just care to satisfy their own expansionist desires. Just look at Turkey today, same thing. Nothing changed for them since the middle ages. They still like to invade and occupy the lands of others, but in the end the biggest losers are their own people who have to live in a 3rd world Nazi state.

That said, I think the discrimination between "Turks" and "Christians" was obvious during the Ottoman rule. Not only the Christians paid 2 times more taxes, but they were also discriminated against in many other ways. A Christian testimony was not accepted in the courts for example. It was natural that many Christians would be forced to change religion to have a better life, and the result was "Turkish" Cypriots.

Well in the UK women used to get put in sacks if people thought they were witches and thrown into the river Thames..if they sunk they died....if they floated because of air in the sack then they were burnt alive....it wasnt just the Ottomans, these types of savagery was happening everywhere....

Whos living in a 3rd world country? Turkey is NOT 3rd world  Do you really think Turkeys a 3rd world country Piratis?

Have you ever been or seen what Turkeys like?
