Footballers wages in Cyprus........Please Help

Football, Basketball, F1 etc.

Postby Sotos » Tue Sep 04, 2007 2:34 pm

I think most footballers here are semi-professionals holding down a job and playing football.

Nobody is like that in the first division!! How much you get depends on how good you are but for sure much lower than UK. I would say that the low average of salaries of premier league players is the high average of the first division in Cyprus.

From the age of 7 we had to travel three times a week, 30 miles, to train till I was 16 where I went full time, and moved away from home. Whats the difference between footballers and singers, or celebrities. Footballers work very very hard, and despite being one of the most wanted jobs, its one of the hardest. Rarely get a day off to see family. There is a lot of money in football, due to tv rights and sponsors, so why shouldn't we get paid. Your opinion is a joke.

It is my opinion and that is what you asked for. Correct? You must learn to take the good with the bad or you will be wasted on here mate. Millions of other people worldwide go training as you do, or do years at college/university etc and do damned good jobs that in MY OPINION deserve a good wage. To reverse your question, why should you get paid? Ninety minutes (if that) of chasing a ball along with 23 other grown up men. You call it entertaining what with the hugging, jumping on top of each other, the diving and the 'playing to the crowd'! Goodness help you all if a goal is actually scored!!!! I call it good acting.... Should all be nominated for Oscars, that is, in my opinion

Im currently on 800-1000 a week depending on how many matches I play in a week. I know living in Cyprus, is alot cheaper, but is what im on now, similar to what I would be getting, playing for a top club. Bit suprised to be honest, as Stevenage is a conference team, but fed up with this shit country.

Just out of interest, is the weekly pay based on during the football season, or a yearly pay spread out 52 weeks . How long is the season by the way.?? I know it's around 40 league matches in the UK, but the overall playing season with all the other "cup" matches.

You say footballers earn every penny, but their earnings are way above the earnings of the average supporters who come to watch them. Same goes to all other professional athletes.

When others pay to watch them live and on TV then why not? Stop watching them and they will play only in the fields and their neighborhoods ;)

Calm down, sweetpea. You won't last 5 minutes on this forum if you fly of the handle at a persons comment you don't like.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

ChrisDemetriou, if your mate's uncle is the new director of football at Ael Lemesos, why don't you ask him ?.

On a different matter, did you ever manage to locate the beautiful Cypriot girl you once saw in the restaurant in Larnaka ?, hope you did mate, if not, hope you do.

This can go up to 100K CYP for foreign stars however.

Basically a weekly wage in the Premiership translates as a yearly wage in the top flight here :)

BRO ..are you sure about this ,...my uncle is the manger of anorthosis and he said 12k is average per year and some earn a bit more ...but he payes £18-25k a year ... i cant see a cyp team paying £100k cyp ...
