Cyprus - San Marino 3 - 0

Postby Sotos » Wed Sep 12, 2007 9:17 pm

We played much better than the away game. We could have scored more and we had a clear penalty that was not given. Aloneftis scored two goals and one by Markides. San Marino just made 1-2 two shoots from far. In another game Norway - Greece 2 - 2. Greece went ahead 2 times but Norway equalized. In the extra time Greece had a unique chance to kill the game but the ball hit the post.

Cyprus 3-1 impressive win over San Marino

Cyprus had dominated their opponents San Marino with a confident performance at the GSP stadium in Nicosia, winning 3-0. The result has pushed the Cypriot side into fifth place on 10 points in their Group D qualification.

Kostas Makridis (15') - Efstathios Aloneftis (41') - Efstathios Aloneftis (92'+)

The first goal came with Makridis of APOEL headed home powerfully following Efstathios Aloneftis' cross.

For all their possession and chances, though, there was only to be one more goal before half time, this time Aloneftis getting on the scoresheet himself.

The Energie Cottbus ace slammed home a lovely free kick following Vitaioli's foul on Konstantinou.

Cyprus continued their domination going into the second period, but it wasn't until the last minute that they could add to the score, Aloneftis grabbing his second.

The Cypriots thus move onto ten points, level with Slovakia and Wales, while San Marino remain rock bottom.

Cyprus 3 -0 San Marino
1-0 Makridis 15'
2-0 Alonefetis 41'
3-0 Alonefetis 90'

Cyprus: Georgallides, Charalambous (Garpozis 65), Okkarides, Christou, Michael, Elia (Theodotou 76), Makridis, Nikolaou, Okkas (Yiasoumi 46), Konstantinou, Aloneftis.

San Marino: Federico Valentini, Carlo Valentini, Vanucci, Vitaioli, Albani (Benedettini 81), Bolini, Andreini, Bugli, Marani (F. Nanni 88), Selva, Bonini (Mariotti 73).

Not a bad effort by San Marino considering their size... :)
