Is Enosis Dead or Not?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby insan » Tue Mar 15, 2005 3:01 am

boulio I asked you to give me the link of the interview which Ecevit told that "Cyprus problem solved in 1974". Was that link contains such an interview made with Ecevit. There are many articles that alleges he said it. I know that. I've told you before.

metecyp, I'm not trying to hide the truth and making a point. I've never seen Ecevit making such a statement or read an interview made with him related with such a statement.

Was there such an Ecevit statement in Birand's Cyprus documentary?

Turkish governments argue that the Cyprus problem is not acute because Turkish Cypriot security has been ensured since 1974, and that dialogue is the appropriate channel for resolution. Turks generally support their military forces on the island and agree that they should not withdraw until Turkish Cypriots' rights are guaranteed effectively. Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit, who also had held the office in 1974, argues that the Cyprus problem was solved in 1974. In an October 24, 1999 interview, he said, "diplomatic recognition (of the TRNC) may not be given, but it should be acknowledged that there are two autonomous entities on the island."

So what does he mean? Don't recognize TRNC because it should be considered as one of the two autonomous entities on Cyprus. What it tells you mikkie? It tells me that RoC has been killed by Hellenes and a fresh start is needed from scratch based on "political equality" of two communities in a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation. No?

No, not in Birand's documentary. More recently, just before Ecevit lost power in Turkey, I remember he made a remark similar to "Cyprus problem was solved in 1974". As I said before, I don't remember exactly when he said it or where but I do remember seeing it on TV and getting angry at him thinking that he lost it all.
