what three language?? ROC has only two official languages!!

Iceman,Cyprus has 3 languages - Cypriot Greek,Cypriot Turkish,& English.English has been retained as a linking language.

Are you going to teach me what is what in Cyprus now? How many times have you been to Cyprus?
Just because you see English writen on your coins does not mean English is an official language..

Iceman, sometimes what is official is not what the people have in common as their native language. For example, the official language of Taiwan is Mandarin Chinese, but the common language is Taiwanese.

How many Turkish-speaking Cypriots speak Cypriot Greek? Very few I would imagine. How many Greek-speaking Cypriots speak Cypriot Turkish? Again,I can guess very few. That is why English should be recognised as an official language in Cyprus.

2 official languages to this country. In a scenario of re-unification our kids better start learning turkish and greek quickly.

Us older ones can teach each other in the taverna.

I met an old Lady who lives in Alsancak but was originally from Paphos area. She spoke a mixture of Greek and Turkish and her son said she actually struggled a bit to speak 100% Turkish all the time. I wish I could speak another language fluently............. I am having lessons - but I do struggle somewhat!!!

Tess, you could always speak an Anglo-Cypriot Turkish pidgin, albeit, with an Irish accent,as a way of trying to make yourself understood. You can get by speaking English only in most parts of Cyprus anyway.

Add Some words to Our New National Anthem people (humour me :)

All Cypriots Come in Unity and Love for peace
That our beautiful Island nation surounded by sea becomes the joy and jewel of the Meditaranian
That its beautiful shores and mountain ranges be free for all to see

Let Cypriot Uniqueness govern the laws we live
The difference shared by all of us on this land be the testimony of who we are
For Cypriots share the special gifts of hospitality

The Greek National Anthem is very rousing.

It should stay ... but it is so long, perhaps alternate verses could be sang in Greece as the Greek National Anthem ... and the remaining alternate verses sung in Kypriaka as the Cypriot National Anthem.

Sorted :D

Phoenix you sure know how to wind people up dontcha, personally I like it for greece but not for Cyprus. Am one of those weirdos who believe in a Cypriot nation where all its people identify as Cypriots and work together for the betterment of the nation;) I cannot trace my families links back to the greeks I tried I got 5 generation back, I found Italian lineage but not Greek.
