Veggie food in cyprus

Postby eracles » Mon Apr 04, 2005 11:02 pm

guys....this is really difficult....my names is eracles and i'm a vegetarian.
there is said it  in cyprus they look at me like i'm mad and then say 'well that's okay, you can have chicken or fish'
it's a long shot but which restaurants would you recommend for a freak like me who doesn't like meat
i know it's easter and there'll be lots of your normal veggie greek food about. but wonder whether there's any restaurants that do veggie food particularly well, maybe even a veggie meze???
I'll be mainly in limassol and paphos area.
i hope i haven't shocked any of you too much

Most restaurants in Paphos have quite a wide selection of vegetarian dishes, infact usually 4-6. They include all the normal vegetarian things you might expect, and fish  , and some Greek dishes.

You can find "Vegetarian Platter" on a lot of menus, which is sliced and fried vegetables. Vegetable Meze is another popular one.

I can't comment much on the vegetarian dishes, since I'm not vegetarian, but I've heard the quality of vegetarian food is excellent :)

I agree with Gamma, most restaurants have a large variety of veggie food. One of my favorite lebanese restaurants serves excellent vegetarian food....I believe there is a restaurant now, I think in Paphos, but I have to double check that, called Hermiones Kitchen, only serving Veggiefood. Could also be that shes only catering tho, had some of her food on an Exhibition on saturday, it was excellent:

Hermione's Kitchen - Specialising in freshly prepared, healthy vegetarian food. Wheat free, sugar free, dariy free and vegan options available. Hermione's Kitchen caters for buffets, meals, picnics, BBQ's, Children's parties and freezer fillers. Novelty cakes also available for special occasions. Hermione Shipway, 99 188441

There is a great little restaurant in the Limassol old town that will do you Veg meze if you call in advance.
They do everything homemade including all the dips, they also do a wicked Veg mousakka, homemade of course.
The name is MEZE TAVERNA and there on Saint Andrews street, tel number is 25 367 333.
I totally recommend it!

Marina, would you know if they do a Meze for 1 person? Reason I'm asking is I have a few friends coming to Cyprus in a could of weeks and they will be staying in Limassol where I will be booking into the hotel for that week. One of them is a vegeterian whilst everyone else are meat eaters.

Thanks:)

Hi Hazza,

I'm really not sure about the veggie meze for one, you could always call and ask but they have lovely homemade veggie dishes that I'm sure he'll enjoy.
I know that all the starters in the meze are vegetarian so maybe he could ask to share the starters (dips, pitta bread and salad) and then order and main dish of his own!

Like I said before, it's worth a visit.
