Roza (formally Sarah) Esenkenazi was a star of Rembetika. She came from a Jewish family and was born in Istanbul/Constantinople but moved to Thessalonica/Thessaloniki, which was then still part of the Ottoman Empire, as a child. She spoke and sang in Greek, Turkish and Armenian.
