HeadsUp: Tri-Referendum and Solution for 2008?

Postby Andros » Thu Mar 27, 2008 4:43 pm

Tri-Referendum:

According to a number of prominent participants in the Cyprus negotiations process, the people of Cyprus may have to vote in a Tri-referendum: Based on three possibilities:

1) The complete return to the 1960 Constitution:
Including - the Treaty of Alliance, Treaty of Guarantee and Treaty of Establishment, a Greek Cypriot President and a Turkish Cypriot Vice-President, and all of the assigned representatives (including their respective community percentages in the house of representatives).

2) An Annan, Ghalis style federal plan:
Including – two federal style states as part of a loose federal government, similarly to the “Set of ideas” and the former “Annan Plan 5”, with minor changes!

3) Finally: Two Serbia/Montenegro Style Republic States as part of a United Cyprus:
In this agreement, according to certain sources – There will be only “One” Cyprus constitution, similarly to the United Kingdom, where the two proposed “Countries” (states) are to be integral part of the “United Cyprus” Founding agreement.

Republic of Cyprus (Greek Cypriot) = 72%
Republic of Northern Cyprus (Turkish Cypriot) = 26%
British Bases (Reduced by 1%) = 2%

Which one would you vote for (as we will apparently only be able to vote for one of the above)?

Looks like the UN is hard bent on this "United Cyprus" theory again!

The vision of a truly Democratic fairly governed whole country as envisioned by the great Magnanimous Mentor Makarios 8) .....

Sadly departed too soon, otherwise we would not be in this shit (oops sorry!) .... dire straits! .....

Sorry all, Number 3 needs more clarification - a Slight miss-wording:

3) Finally: Two Serbia/Montenegro Style Republic (was wrongly stated as the two seperate entities known as Cyprus and Northern Cyprus are proposed to be TWO countries within the "United Cyprus" Constitution, and NOT two seperate "Republic" States) States as part of a United Cyprus:
In this agreement, according to certain sources – There will be only “One” Cyprus constitution, similarly to the United Kingdom, where the two proposed “Countries” (states) are to be integral part of the “United Cyprus” Founding agreement.

Cyprus (Greek Cypriot) = 72%
Northern Cyprus (Turkish Cypriot) = 26%
British Bases (Reduced by 1%) = 2%

A good Analogy of the above is the UK Model - Where Cyprus could be viewed as "England" and Northern Cyprus as "Scotland", all living under a new SINGLE CONSTITUTION known as "United Cyprus".

I believe the emphasis on the Single Constitution is very significant here!

Don't you all?

Therefore I believe the UN may have actually touched on something Tangible here. Please view the following:

Constitution and Country: UNITIED CYPRUS
Sovereign Areas: CYPRUS, NORTHERN CYPRUS, and British Bases

Although it may be hard to fathom, the UN is serious about the above. I just wonder where it came from (the UK! oops! Say no more!!!!)?

I am sorry ... but none of these proposals make any sense to the women of this country ... :D

Please clarify and simplify ....

We do not want another war.

We just want the Turkish troops to go home.

We want someone nice like Makarios to lead the country.

We understand one person, one vote ..

We do not want anything more ...

Stop complicating matters ... :?

 Why do you insist about referring on Serbia/Montenegro? This country ceased to exist and today there are two independent countries Serbia & Montenegro. :?

Anyway, the Cyprus problem is much more complicated than that.

Also despite the 1707 Act of Union, whilst England and Scotland are united, they are still subject to different legal traditions and practices ...... so actually the comparison with a federal north and south Cyprus might be right after all !!!
