Yes, my grandfather and many others witnessed that. I remember telling me about a british officer killing a TC soldier because the latter demanded food.

My father fought in the British Army during WWII .... he thought in exchange, Cyprus would be given independence ....

Six years of misery, 18 months as a POW in Italy, stomach surgery due to ulceration from harsh conditions etc .....

..... and zilch from the British without another fight!

The British governments past and present Do Not deserve the British people .Look at the way the MOD looks after its troops fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan !! As for the recent governments what can one say , they are a bunch of greedy money grabbing title chasing bloody liars who tell us even today that the influx of third world immigrants into the UK is good for the country and its rewarding for the British people !!

A nun , 67 years old , fell asleep on a bus and missed her stop , an inspector woke her up and charged her with avoiding payment of the correct fare !!! This is today's Britain , screw the public squeeze every bloody penny out of them and feed them with crap. The banks , the insurance companies all employ experts at conning the public !!!

Remember also the many innocent victims of EOKA. There were many, GCs and TCs. Also british servicemens women folk. They were innocent victims too.

I agree but as in every war there are victims. Also remember the brutal tortures and executions of many EOKA fighters.

Regarding Eoka fighters, I have a broad spectrum of opinions. As I have matured in years I have seen them in a different light than in my younger days. We had heard a lot of the torturing going on. I bear thoughts about lots of things. The pages here would not suffice to include all.

I once told an old mate on this forum that I will respect any patriot as long as he does not wish deprive me of my homeland - Cyprus.

What can one possibly find wrong with a struggle against an occupying power which Brittain was at the time.Why should we respect the right of the British to defend Britain against the Nazis and yet degrade those that wanted their independence from Brittain.
As a young man in Cyprus I joined EOKAS' youth branch ANE and took the oath as many others did . I do not regret it and neither do I feel that I supported a "terrorist " organization."
the vast majority of the Cypriot people ,wrongly in my opinion with hindsight , wanted Union with Greece , nothing wrong in that based on the events as they were back in 1955 . Had Union with Greece took place I'm sure today I would be fighting for independence from Greece !!
