How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

From a thread which was posted last year I believe this was discussed.

You sure?

These votes for Enosis were TC Union members of AKEL and this was a 'Block Vote'. I doubt they had any idea what they were voting for.

Deniz, could it also be said that today’s Turkish Cypriots supporting partition have no idea what exactly they are supporting?

How stupid can you get. How loud and clear do you want their message to be jelly brain? Its as clear as black and white.

Just to prove that it's not I that is a "jelly brain" or "stupid" have a VERY GOOD look at your ALIAS and now tell me...

Is that a person who really knows what the hell he is supporting anymore? Image

The temptation to respond to GR's posts is great but the risk of making a fool of yourself is even greater...

My message is also loud and clear. I came onto the forum believing there was hope, seeing the true colours of the GCs soon made me realise that this was just wishful thinking and partition is perhaps the best option.

You see jelly brain we have the luxury of choice. As for you guys I would say whatever the outcome you are well and truly screwed.

Now who's laughing

I can't provide a definitive answer to the "referendum" as I was in the womb at the time, but most authorities I have read (e.g. Zenon Stavrinides: The Cyprus Conflict: National Identity and Statehood (Nicosia 1975)) say that it took the form of a petition where people signed their name in public. In many cases (most cases?) the petition was placed in the local Church and supervised by the priest.

In my opinion, it would have been a brave GC who openly expressed opposition. As with any petition of this type, the opportunities for adding names, real or fictitious, would have been endless. So while there is little doubt that the majority of GCs at this time were in favour of enosis, the accuracy of the detailed results must be open to question.

Well done observer!

That might explain why only 800 TCs voted for ENOSIS ... if someone thought to hand out some petitions at Mosques, we may have seen even more TC signatures
