Windsurfing in Limassol, ladies Mile

Postby Raymanoff » Mon May 26, 2008 2:15 pm

I prepared this for another forum but wanted to share my knowledge of this area if anyone plans to surf there.

To make such a long runs its advised to bring Slalom or Freeride boards.

Altho by international laws the southern beach of RAF is closed off illegaly which i will challenge in court next time SBA Police gets me. The southern point of the RED path is the most beautiful place in Cyprus i've seen so far and its not available for public... what a shame.

Did you mean this part of the coast is accessible for 'Forces personnel' only? It may well be that the turtles use that part of the beach for nesting and it is a 'no-go' area for everyone. Just a suggestion.

Enjoy your windsurfing :)

nice chart ray, and some good advice there too

i would add, that ladies mile is a great spot but in summer is quite tough for beginner-intermediates especially riding boards without a daggerboard, as the SBA police force you to sail outside the buoys, and the inexperienced can easily find themselves unable to get back upwind

nice in winter when the wind can come from easterly side, but in summer the prevailing wind direction is from the west

also pretty crowded in summer

i was nearly decapitated there riding my bic techno 283 by some villager towing his kids on a ringo. this idiot nearly killed me, when i grabbed him by the throat later on the beach he blubbed that it was his first time driving a boat and i should forgive him !

Bic techno 283? Its a boat! :D :D I had Bic Techno once 146, was too bulky for me... felt like i am riding a bus. :)
BUt nevertheless, its fun... summertime it is a bit crowded there but we usually come 16:00, 17:00 on windy days. We had numerous warnings from SBA but its just impossible to sail out from he boar corridor and then come back the same way, its rediculus... this year they moved buoys further away, no one swims there EVER...

ah well, bic techno 283 was fine for me at my level, i did not have too much experience.

i gave up windsurfing some years ago, it's a rich man's sport really and too high maintenence for my tastes.

still surfing though, i am going to oman soon for indian ocean waves and uncrowded beaches....

NO idea unfortunately but i avoided a 60kmh collision with a jetski a week ago on ladies mile... it was such a stupid and dangerous maneuver that i decided to call SBA Police on him when i got out... There was another call to Police on the same guy so he got 2 warnings in 1 day... i think 1 more and he could go to court. Fuckin brainless machos...
