Really want a LIFE!

Postby joking » Wed Apr 27, 2005 5:35 pm

Hello, just been browsing through the site and have found lots of useful information, looking to relocate by June 2006. A few questions that I hope you will be able to help us with.
1. We want to start a business, I have heard that you can only employ two foreigners, is this the case?
2. What sort of cost could we expect to register our business and is there a huge amount of red tape, ie should we start the process from here?
3. We run a karaoke/disco here and feel that there could be potential to do in Cyprus as our only income, do the local Cypriot businessmen employ Brits for this kind of work?
4. Both myself and my husband have to have regular medication, namely HRT & Asthma Puffers (for want of better words!) how would we get on with that?
5. We will be bringing two dogs over, but have definitely decided to rent, is there much property available for pats with pets?
Thanks so much in advance of your anticipated responses!

Hi Joking

You may employ as many foreigners as you wish, but there is a new policy to allow employment of EU citizens at the expense of non-EU citizens.

Yes, there is a lot of red tape and Governmnet officials here are pretty inept and slow. However, it does not cost a fortune: you will need to register at Companies House, with the VATman, with Social Security and Department of Finance - to pay income tax.

There is no NHS here so you will need to pay for your medication; even private insurance will not cover pre-conditions.

Thankyou Lana, do you think that we should register our business before we move out?

Hi Jocking

No, come out here first, get a lawyer and accountant as you will need professional advice as to what records need to be kept, what you need to do etc.

Be aware, that pay is very low here.
