Water diplomacy

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Car washes in Greece are fitted with filtration and recirculation systems. Dont they have those in Cyprus? The car wash keeps using and the same water which is filtered and cleaned of debris. That would semm to be a no brainer for a dry but car loving country.

I wondered if that might have been the reason why the one surviving one has a lid on .... it is on the outskirts of the village, and maybe no one has got round to removing the structure yet.

I think they should re-consider building more.

Like water towers in the UK......

We have two tanks in our village. They are topped to stop breeding mossies and avoid evaporation.

I haven't washed my car since I bought it 5 months ago :D .... I park it in the field by the house so it just accumulates dust.

Really it doesn't look any worse than it did about 3 months ago .... with a self-limiting layer of dust.

Just think of all the water I've saved. 8)

8) Other factors in the shortage of water are..a government that sat on its hands through at least four years of water famine then had the cheek to say its gods fault for the lack of rainfall.
An increase in construction and thereby population without any thought to the infrasructure required.
forward planning like constructing another dam.
Building houses without any form of guttering so that rainwater when it comes can be used for watering plants or washing down pavements, instead of all going down the drain.
(incidentally car washes usually recycle their water)
A percentage of the population that will carry on wasting water whatever.....some call it custom, but some would call it lack of thought for their fellow community members..
Water is the basic need for all forms of life.. think about where we would be now if Greece could not supply us ???? not so much Kataklysmos more catastrophe.
Welcome to the 21st century folks...

Actually if I could get over my fear of driving fast ... I bet most of the dust would just blow off ......

i could argue against swimming pools but in the evening the small birds come for a drink in ours.how far would they have to fly if it was not for our pool? also most big swimming pool owners don't check their water quality, so i would not rely on using a large complex run pool. we all love to swim.

Those little birds are probably dying a slow intoxicated death from the chlorine .....

All you would need is a small fresh water-filled bird bath ... instead of using this as an excuse for maintaining a swimming pool!

What scares me a little is that the first tanker bearing water from Greece is still moored off Yermasoyia and they appear not to have managed to unload it yet. According to the news, this is because the pipes need to be slightly longer. Does anybody know what the latest state of play is?
